weren't it just like the 16-19 year olds or something? They were up against like proper pro footballers tbf
Bare in mind 3 of us would be chippy sock accounts and trev would get lost out on the wing, and our prized weapon could be to sub in a bedwetter at 3-0 down to water log the pitch
It does show that most of our young lads are way off being ready to compete anywhere near the first team squad yet. And some never will. Kuol & Diallo looked totally lost up front
Kuol is 19 and if he had some serious talent, I'd expect him to be sniffing around the actual 22 man squad at this stage. He's older than Miley. Players like Hall and Miley look like 27 year olds in comparison to some of the other lads.
Kuol's positional play reminds me of school kids running round like headless chickens chasing the ball over the pitch just to get a touch.
This is what happens when you do what we were trying under Ashworth. The Chelsea approach, you cast out a net like a fishing trawler and just pick up as many youngsters you can from all over the place and hope some of them are gems.
How does this all work with the new financial restrictions - could we 'own' lots of young lads but loan them out to see which ones are good, without hitting financial thresholds?
I’m sure there’s restrictions now on number of young players you can buy in a year. Might be wrong but don’t think I am
Buy as many as you want but there’s no ffp discount. The restriction is on how many you can loan out IIRC. Academy spend, which is free of FFP isn’t on signings.
Despite the jokes of me covering the goal as a keeper, I was actually mostly right full back, so I'm bagging that.
I'll take a CDM or CB berth... Well I'll probably be benched as I model my recent footballing skillset on Dummett!
