I recall I missed it by 1 second. More recently at Burton away a few seasons ago, I bought one of their tickets and missed it by 10 seconds. So to answer your question, I don't know anyone who won it either.
Remember those corned beef & potato pasties they sold in that shack inside the Canton Stand; a right treat!
I remember sitting with my dad on those wooden benches in the Canton Stand and watching Graham Vearncombe in goal down in front of me. Must have been all of 6 years old then.
I was in the right hand grandstand enclosure directly behind Honig when he hit the ball - looked for all the world like he'd mis-hit it. There was no power at all behind his effort. Don't know if Wilson was still celebrating Harris's equaliser a few minutes before, but he was so slow getting down and the ball went under him. He broke a couple of thousand hearts that night - mine was one of them............
Quite rightly so. I started at that part of the ground and when I was 12 I progressed to the white wall between the Grange End and Bob Bank.
It's certainly beginning to look that way. Doesn't sound like he was offered the assurances he was looking for. A shame in my opinion and an ominous sign that no other manager will get what's required.
