Silly statements require silly solutions. By Speakman's own metric, we should have been promoted this year. To get back on track and for the five year plan to not have failed, we need to be up and consolidated by May next year. Yes, we're into Billy The Fish logic for the plan.
I am someone who wants Speakman removed but he never said automatic promotion was the aim last season. He said the club weren't satisfied with losing in the playoffs, which is a perfectly normal thing to say. In fact, if he said the club were satisfied with it people like you would've complained. And the 5 year plan is a thing KLD said, not Speakman. I'm all for Speakman criticism but **** me at least don't lie.
I know, I’m a miserable git. For what it’s worth I’m not entirely convinced by Still despite hoping we get him. I want the club to get their first choice as I trust them to choose more than I trust my own judgement (despite Beale)
Must clubs have debt. He spent to get to the premier league. He got us back to the premier league at the first time of asking. Brought in Keane who was the perfect appointment and sold to Ellis short who secured our future for the next 10+ years. Speakman isn’t even chairman so you can’t even compare them. But in his actual job, he’s running through managers at a rapid pace and inflating our squad with some questionable youngsters. He has done some good, but to compare him to Quinn is a non starter.
It's not outside the realms of possibility that a new Head Coach finds a formula to get us in the play offs and we go up this season. It's unlikely, but it's not impossible. To that end, you cannot judge a 5 year plan halfway through
Fwiw every club in the championship wants to be in the premier league in X number of years. Simple maths means it’s not possible for all. I don’t like Speakman but judging him based purely on not meeting our ambition isn’t fair. Too many variables. He’s not doing a good job in my opinion, but that’s not because we failed promotion this year
Exactly this, and our ambitions needn’t be those of the owner I suppose, I mean his ambition may be to pass us on as a club at the point we go up or when we have firmly established ourselves as a top ten championship team, who knows? Certainly not any of us chatting on this board.
He didn't like he said no one is happy qualifying for the play offs No-one is satisfied with getting into the play-offs - while it is a great achievement in the first year back, we have to keep being successful and we have to keep improving." Now if they weren't satisfied with that patchy it would suggest if they wish to keep improving then top 2 of course would be the aim. He also said he wants a team to challenge the top 2.
So everything he said was perfectly normal and if he'd said anything else people would've been unhappy. As I said, i'm all for Speakman criticism but at least make it something he's actually done wrong otherwise we, as fans, just look like idiots who demand way too much.
Yes but you made it sound like he didn't say it. I would expect anyone involved at Sunderland to say top 2 is the aim. He was unhappy at getting into the play offs so the alternative is autos or finish below 6th, we chose the latter To be fair he hasnt said we would be promoted that would be silly, but he did set himself up for a fall
The problem wasn't sacking TM the problem was we weren't prepared for a replacement to come straight in, unbelievable after the carry on to after sacking Johnson, at Swansea the fans were really heavy on lines that TM needed to go.....maybe we were to respectful as in we didnt go & approach a replacement before TM went....thats the moral way to do it ..... unfortunately thats not how the game works, hopefully were learning lessons as we go on....if we get who we want over the line im confident were moving in the right direction & will have a good season next year...we have had a 6 month dip .....to me overall things still look as positive as they have for a long long time...KTF
