Andy Caroll. What should we do?

Ok, we've paid £35m for a player maybe worth £12m. Should we cut our losses or persist with him. To be fair, he is still very young and who knows what the future might hold.
I would not want to see our team compromised just to fit in Caroll just because he cost £35m. I think we need to treat him like any other player and hope he comes good. He must feel a huge amount of pressure which is maybe affecting his form.

He hasn't been that bad for us, we all know he isn't worth £35m. People just need to forget about his price tag and see the potential in him.

 

Agree with Kenny and Zingy. We have him now so I think we need to forget about the fee and try to get the best out of him. The good news is that he's young enough to still develop into a top player and who knows?

 

Treat him like any other prospect (Like Spearing) but try, somehow (!), to swallow and get over the fact we grossly overpaid for him.

 

This really is a horrendous problem.

He needs to shut all of us up and score a few goals.

To be fair he tried bloody hard against Chelsea.

Just need one to hit his shin and go in.

I think cutting his hair will help too.

I also think he should cut his hair. Making a bit of an effort over reducing his scruffiness might convert to making a bigger effort in training and on the pitch...

 

We all know of a certain player who 2 or 3 seasons ago was the butt of all jokes, and know he is a bigger loss to us than stevie. So I'm personally willing to wait another season or 2 despite Carroll's over inflated price tag. Andy didn't set the price.

The only people that mention the fee are the ones that have nothing to do with Liverpool Football Club on a day to day basis. Do you think Kenny and co sit there and think "shall we put £35m on the pitch? Or £22m? Or maybe we should go cheap and put the freebie on?" They look at each player judging whether to pick them on their qualities and talent, not their price tag!

Carroll was expensive, everyone that remotely knows football knows he was expensive. People also know that the Torres deal was inflated too. Would you rather have a lackluster Torres or a Carroll who is at least trying? Carroll will come good given time, it is only the price tag that is making people inpatient!

 

I wouldn't care so much about the price if I thought he was putting in the hours but I don't think he is. He never goes that extra yard on the pitch and judging by Reinas comments, neither does he in training either. Stark contrast to Lucas who also had to contend with changing his position from AM to DM.

I think he does put effort in on the pitch but his fitness lets him down. Obviously, if he put the effort in in training then his fitness levels would improve.

There is no problem or rush with Carroll he will be a great player for us.

Away League Games won with Carroll starting:

Arsenal, Everton, West Brom

Away Cup Games won with Carroll starting:

Stoke, Chelsea

Games Carroll came very close to scoring:

Sunderland (unfairly disallowed goal), Wolves (woodwork), Swansea (woodwork), Norwich (missed header) Man City (Joe Hart save), Chelsea (penalty).

So apart from the fact that with a bit more luck or the confidence of being in form Carroll could actually have a decent goalscoring record this season and we might not even be having this conversation, he has also helped us to some very tough away wins.

Do people honestly think we won at those grounds carrying a player? Did we win despite playing effectively with 10 men according to some? He hasn't done so well at home as he hasn't score his chances (neither have the rest of the team) and because it's going to take more time for him to adjust to the dominant pressing game we're trying to instill in the players at Anfield. If people weren't so keen to condemn him though they would be able to see, for example, how many times he held up and laid the ball off at Stamford Bridge, or indeed how hard he worked right until the end of that game.
