Getty Images Everton manager David Moyes admitted that referee Howard Webb had made a "terrible decision" in awarding his team the penalty that ultimately salvaged a point for his side at Sunderland. The Scot spoke out after Webb pointed to the penalty spot after Leon Osman had tumbled to the ground when miskicking despite appearing not to have been challenged by a Sunderland player. Leighton Baines knocked home the resultant spot-kick amid howls of derision from Sunderland fans who had seen Jack Colback put their side on course for a first win over Everton since December 2001. Moyes was quick express his sympathy for Sunderland manager Martin OâNeill following their 1-1 draw and admitted that his team had benefited from a miscarriage of justice. âIt is a terrible decision by the referee,â Moyes told reporters at his post-match press conference. âIt wasnât a penalty kick and Martin OâNeill should feel hard done by. I initially thought it was a penalty but I have had a chance to see it again and I donât think it is a penalty kick. âI have come out and been as honest as I can. I always tell people what I see in the game. And it wasnât a penalty kick.â Despite the penalty decision, Moyes maintained that the draw was a fair result but is concerned about his teamâs lack of finishing power. âIt is a hard time to come to Sunderland with a new manager and a bit of momentum and Martin has got them going. It was always going to be a hard game for us to win,â Moyes added. âWe played really well for 25 minutes when we were the better team and created two really good chances for Tim Cahill and Louis Saha. We couldnât capitalise by scoring and Sunderland grew into the game and took the lead with what was an own goal because the shot was going into the goalieâs arms but took a deflection and went in. âSunderland got better in the second half but the conditions were terrible. We passed the ball well for 30 minutes and looked good but didnât do much with it. But on the other hand, we didnât have to defend an awful lot so a draw in the end was a fair result. âIt is clear for all to see that if we had taken our chances in the first half we could have been out of sight in the first 20-30 minutes but we didnât. The lack of goals is a massive concern." Moyes had to make do without Marouane Fellaini who was ruled out of the trip to Wearside with injury. âFellaini is a big player for us and we missed him today because he has an adductor strain,â Moyes said. âHe is really important for us and so we had to change things around a wee bit.
I saw it, I lol'd then I had my head in my hands in utter disbelief! If you guys somehow manage to get Howard MUFC Webb demoted I will develop a new found respect for you all heh.
Utter disbelief when I he gave the pen. He stood there looking at the point where the player fell for about 5 seconds before giving anything. Looked like a right lemon. Ah well...onwards and upwards
Thing is Moyes had to say that as everyone who saw it on Sky and reported on it said it wasn't a pen in a million years. However if it was the other way round (highly unlikely I know) we'd take it all day. No doubt the refs association will come out in support of Webb and say it was a nailed on penalty the bunch of spineless twats. Agree with what has been said on here that the refs should be demoted for constant poor decisions, however that would mean we would have about 2 refs for the whole of the PL.
Of course he said it, there was no doubt in anybody's eyes (apart from Herr Howard of course) that it was nowhere near a penalty! TBH it's one of those things, we can't do anything about it so we should just carry on and look forward to thrashing City next week!
Thoughtn we did ok considering early substitution made a 3 man shuffle about straight away, then lost bardo at half time, both teams looked busy but not a great amount created at either end, still think we'd have gone on to win but for the ref. Thought o,shea looked a lot more comfortable in the middle
Not happy at all the way Osman was appealling and banging the ground as though he had been tackled. ****ing ****.
Good on Moyes for saying what he saw, can you imagine that french pufta Wenger doing that? Thing is these ****s are accountable to no one are they? Osman should be stripped naked & blasted with pig **** on live tv for being a cheating ****. Webb should be shot with a .303.
i can think of one manager who would have said it was a stonewall penalty and should have been a sending off
Now there is something we can ALL agree on. The bloke lives up his own arsehole and really thinks he is the star we have all paid to see. If he were demoted down the leagues for a a few weeks, maybe he would start to do his job with a little more humility and stop strutting all over the ****ing shop all game like he is Pele. There are too many up their own arse refs these day to be honest though QWOP. He hasn't even had the decency to come forward and admit to making a monumental **** up either, the cowardly bastard. Can you tell I'm not happy. Lol
Has moyes had words with Oman then as he did a suarez and threw his hands in the air like he'd been shot? That's twice this season that result changing decisions have gone against us (penalties) as the one against wigan as well.
In defense of Osman, he´s not a cheat, i reckon he maybe thought he´d been clipped when he kicked the deck, just felt an impact. He had a good game Osman, underrated player.
TBH even when players have a chance to get a shot away they are thinking about going down for a pen. It's happening more and more. Not saying he did it on purpose. Then again, I'm not saying he didn't either. But if he didn't know he kicked the turf, went down like a bag of ****e, appealing on the way down and banging the ground when he hadn't been touched then in my eyes. He's a cheating twat.
