There have been a lot of negatives on this forum lately with regard to Nicky Maynard, he has been one of our biggest investments in recent years,he's one of the highest wage earners,we looked after him when he was seriously injured and have ofered a terrific package to sign a new contract. He has never knocked our club, suffered many up and downs and seen GJ (who signed him) have success then fail, the igmony of Mr Coppout and the Millen fiasco,so he has had reasons to doubt our future way forward. The club and management have consistently supported over the last 12 months even with his contract running down and the loss of large transfer funds, eventually Delboy has joined, bringing a fresh new approach,a new style and has impressed all of us with the genuine way he is bringing our club back to life, new signings, points gained on the board, resulting in a slow rise back up the table and more stability all round in the club. Despite final offers and reassurances from Sexstone,Delboy and Steve Lansdown,Nicky for his own reasons still won't commit to the club and want's to move on. No offers we are told have come in for him yet,so should we actively try to move him out or cling to thin hopes he will still sign,by looking at Delboys game plan yesterday he has had enough and I agree with him. Nicky, everybody is entitled to choose their own future but for god sake get on with it,you've honoured your contract, you've got no loyalty to the club, the club is bigger and better than you, at least depart in the window and we'll all be happy.
Yet another story - this time linking him to Wigan.... http://www.wigan.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=270100 Would £2m get him I wonder? More importantly - would he agree to a move to the bottom club in the PL who are likely to be back in the CCC next season. I suspect not. Swansea sounded a more possible destination but that all seems to have gone quiet now.....
i voted go, but if the question was sell maynard or maynard signs a 3 year deal, then id have maynard all day long
I hope WBA come in for him. The rumour regards Simon Cox being offered would be a fantastic one. I do wonder if he is going to be stuck on the shelf. There was big rumours at the ground yesterday,Fulham is where he is heading at the end of his contract for nowt. Certainly looking after the club that looked after him when he was injured. I would imagine Del will start with the same side as yesterday, that was the best 45 minutes for a very very long time.
As I've said before, if NM ends up in the Prem its never going to be with one of the big clubs, so it's presumably largely about the extra money he can earn and where he wants to live. The lad has done nothing wrong other than refuse to sign a new contract which is his right. If the club knew this was going to be Maynard's stance ages ago (and I'm sure they did) then they should have made his name available for transfer at the end of last season and I'm sure we would have made some money out of it. Mind you there are lots of things that the club should have done over the past couple of years and they failed to take action on most occasions. You only have to look how long the Millen fiasco dragged on for.
Lets face it, given the circumstances, would you go to Wigan...? I have a lot of time for Roberto Martinez. After all, the Swansea side that is currently attracting rave reviews is his and I bet Brendan Rogers couldn't believe his luck when he went there. You can see that he is trying to do the same at Wigan and Dave Whelan is giving him time to do but he doesn't have the help of a rock solid defence like he did at Swansea so he is on a hiding to nothing every week so it's not the place to go really if you are trying to further your career... Looks like we might have NM until the end of the season and if so, this campaign of personal malice just because he won't sign a contract has to stop as, even though he is supposedly not interested, he STILL has a record of 1 goal in 3 appearances and has scored 33% of our league goals this year and kept us out of the relegation zone... What a lazy bastard, good job we don't need him anymore...
Lot of stuff written on this player but it sticks in my throat that we supported him during his injury (nudge/nudge) season and he repays that loyalty with this slap in the face. Amazing how the contracts always favour the employee Nicky (when you decide of course) - nice one, now disappear please.
McInnes dropped Maynard for footballing reasons.... http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11726/7450775/McInnes-explains-Maynard-stance
I voted for him to go, has he looked like a premiership striker, no, he hasn't looked like a championship striker either, how many top flight clubs have put a bid in for him, none, looks like teams are waiting for his contract to run out to get a freebee, i wonder how many of those will be top flight clubs.
i assume that as he started at Crewe he must still have family up there and Wigan isn't that far away? Mind you Wikipedia also says he was rejected by Arsenal as a 7 year old - as a 7 YEAR OLD. How on earth do you handle that.... Go is my vote
Sounds like a good decision not to accept £6 to £7million that was offered from us and now hold out for between £2 to £3million - quite a good bit of business I reckon.
When are you lot going to get it through your thick skulls. HE DID NOT WANT TO TALK TO YOU, IF HE DID WE WOULD OFF ACCEPTED YOUR MONEY!! Don't worry you can all go on the Donny board and say the same thing about Billy Sharp! Please try to understand, players decide where they want to go, unfortunately they don't want to sign for you!
I'd keep him in the team as an impact sub, because we're in no position to not take the help of a good player. If we can't sell then we may as well play the guy. He'll only have four months to show aspiring Premier League teams what he's made of, and nothing will do that better than a goalscoring streak.
Poll result,24 votes cast,23 for him to go and 1 to stay.... 95.83% of votes in favour of him leaving,he is not a popular boy.....
