Public executions used to be very popular, I believe. Mind you there was no Eastenders, Holby City etc. then.
You make some reasonable points, Calydon. But so do SVC and Typical. Therefore, I believe the balance has to be just right: but it isn't, it is stilted and unfair. I use the Diane Abbott example as both are public figures, both are supposed to show a great deal of responsibility and respect within their roles, and both have been accused of racist outbursts. However, the Terry case has not even seen the courts yet - but Abbott is as guilty as hell. Abbot continues in her high-profile role, while Terry is stripped of his captain's armband. It is a gross injustice.
Innocent until proven guilty yes, but Terry shouldn't be captain anyway, how he got it back after what he did I'll never know. I find it hard to support England when I see him in our shirt, awful human being.
I'm afraid I just can't give a reasoned answer to this. Everything in my heads tells me that innocent until proven guilty has to be right and that the FA has acted in haste and pre-judged the issue. If I was Terry I'd be appalled. But, for all of that, I detest the man with a passion and am glad to see him stripped of the armband. I'd applaud even more if he was kicked out of the team.
There is a lot of feeling against Terry at the moment. I don't suppose it's anything to do with the fact that he's not playing very well and the England team is probably better without him?
Do I detect a Scottish perspective here FHB? There is just a tiny part of me that hopes he stays in the team............
Not possible I'm afraid. It never is. When we won the cup in 97 I was on my way to Cornwall for our summer holiday, and I barely managed to pick up a commentary. My brother tried to get tickets but they were sold out within 2 hours(in 97 that is). I'll probably watch the game with him on telly.
Now it looks like Capello may get the sack for Breach of Contract for making a rational point.. The bill to the tax payer and the FA gets even higher. Makes me think Blatter may have been right all along-they just should have shook hands.
How does the FA or the taxpayer lose if Capello is sacked ? Breach of contract -> not entitled to payout -> FA get to appoint an English manager -> win Euro 2012 -> everyone happy Should they set up a bank account in Monaco ahead of the sacking/appointment?
Maybe they'll wait and see if Onest Arry gets his expected "not guilty" before they decide whether or not to sack Capello.
The situation is this. Capello is the manager and has an indisputable right to do his job and make selection as he sees fit. The fa have fettered his selection, he has every right both legally and morally to criticise the fa who after all are denying terry an opportunity which is diffrent from a suspension of duty. Each job suspension is different hence the reason why the fa have now back tracked, they would simply lose in court as Capello would sue for wrongful dismissal. I believe the precedent was set by alf Ramsey who threatened to walk out of his job ( can't remember the player but it happened) Tell me why the fa have not come out and said if Harry gets done for thieving he will not get the England job. Double standards and hypicosy. What they are saying is don't be a racist but thieving is perfectly acceptable.
The FA haven't released a statement yet saying that I won't get the job either. I reckon it's between me and Redknapp.
