Reading through some of the post match reports yesterday I came across this rating by Matt Dickinson in The Times, "It's not saying much, but the Portuguese looks more comfortable on the left than in his usual position at right back, and he coped well with the persistent threat of Valencia".
Then I picked up Shaun Custis's appraisal of him in The Sun viz-"Even less convincing at left back than on the right"
Either one of these blokes was not at the game, or was there, but knows nothing about the game! Or could it be," beauty being in the eye of the beholder!" Just shows you cant believe everything you read in the papers!

Everyone, myself especially included, finds it difficult to see any good in players they don't rate or don't like. When I watched the game live ( on SKY ) I thought Bosingwa was just OK as was Gary Cahill. I'm not particularly enamoured with Boswinga, and unconvinced about Cahill, and this prejudiced my judgement.
On second viewing, Bosingwa was much better than I thought, and Cahill, who I described as the "invisible man ", actually did pretty well and was quite involved.
I guess Shaun Custis just doesn't rate Boswinga.

CP-I think all Blues know that Bosingwa will never earn a place in the Chelsea Hall of Fame! But recently, during a period of absences of key players through injury/international duty/suspensions he seems to have fulfilled his duties --lets say--OK! Nothing more! I cant see , however, the wierd contrast in the comments of 2 so called "front line football jounalists".

The best two games Bosingwa has played for us I reckon is when he was played out of position at left back against Utd and centre back (against the Spuds I think)Not that he did anything really good in either game but that he didnt do anything really bad either so kinda went unnoticed. For me you need a right back to be able to cross a ball and he is total ****e at that so hope he goes in the summer along with that waste of skin Malouda.

Bos is an attacking full back that can't cross for ****. Not a great combo.

But is he playing any worse than a lot of the team at the moment?

Some players just seem to be the ones that get all the stick when things go wrong...Mikel, Malouda, Bos, Kalou spring to mind. Maybe cos none of them have ever made a successful 10 yard pass or maybe they just haven't ever really earnt the right for fans to turn a blind eye? Though Malouda has been particularly woeful these last few games.

I think the problem is the team arent playing well, thus not carrying bosingwa. The fact is he is adequate and thats all, and one of the main attributes for an attacking fullback is surely being able to cross? I personally think he spends too much time playing with the ball as well, why does he feel the need to dribble past everyone for a few mins before crossing it in. If he decided to use his pace and play a first time cross INTO the box, he would be a very good attacking right back. Fact is he doesnt get the ball in the box, and his averageness is just highlighted even more because as a team we arent playing well at all.

Pretty much spot on. Stick him in at City at the moment and he'd look a hell of a lot better. We are playing far too poorly to be carrying players.

My post wasn't about Bosingwa's quality or lack of! It was directed to the weird observations of two, purportedly, professional sports journalists, both working for the same employer, creating articles in two major dailies that are completely the opposite!

In a way, Bosingwa frustrates me, yet sometimes I forget all that, get off my seat and clap.

Problem with him is, he's either good, or absolute rubbish. He NEVER manages to trick defenders by spinning his legs in all directions, his shots in general are utter rubbish, save for some moments of brilliance, and his defending is poor, very, very poor.

Average player, past it by miles.

Arthur -Our fully fit defence would be Branna-Luiz-JT-Cole and in truth, he's only a benchwarmer, who'll be offloaded in summer. But in my view our youth should be ready to do the job if the big boys go cronk, not the likes of Bosingwa!
As I said this post was about the two opposing views of supposed "experts".

Yeah, i think some experts only read reviews and not watch the player/game for themselves....

In my opinion i wouldnt be putting cole in my first choice the ways he's played this season either. He declined in quality.form :(

Agreed Blue army, Cole has been tosh this season, a complete shadow of his usual consistant self!

It's amazing, that Bosingwa has been so bad over the past few months we've forgotten how good he was at the start of the season! He was playing brilliant until we lost to United! We need to be giving Hutchinson more of a chance.
