With all the talk about who will be the next England manager do you remember when Brucie was being tipped for either England or Man U, how times change. Takes me on to windows of oppotunity, I think we all have them in life, that chance comes along, some take it and others let it pass by, I can think of times in my life when I have done both. Right now, I guess, we Sunderland fans feel ours is here, the set up, fans, Quinn and Short have been here and now with MON that window is wide open, Summer and funds will tell us if we are going to grab it. If we miss it, IMO, MON will move on within a short time and we will go back to one more broken dream, my hope and honest view is no, we wont cock it up this time. Short, Quinn and MON are all cut from the same cloth, clever men, quiet men and I think all that rare breed in business, nice men but at the same time all possessing that important ruthless streak. They all must be aware that the window is wide open, all they have to do is walk through it and they know that if they do thousands of us will follow. I always have an intrest in Newcastle and I'm sure we will hear some of their fans saying,"I done believe you", but, on this I have no intrest in anyone but us and how we do. Yes I would love us to be fighting for a top 4 finish next season but I dont expect us to, I see us more in the Spurs mold if anyone, a three or even four season climb with key roles filled in the summer down the spine, central defence, midfield and attack, not a major rebuild but a big move forward just by getting the spine right. Just as important will be retaining the likes of Sess and Mclean, sorting out who is number 1 in goal. We have more than our fair share of false dawns and magic carpets, dawn never quite came and the carpet became a proggy mat, this time I know we all feel that early morning sunrise, dawn is about to break at last. Next step, The Gooners in the prem followed by The Gooners in the cup, not for the first time of late we can say, this is a big week for Sunderland.
Syd, all you have spoken about, sums up the Sunderland supporter, but stupidly [ perhaps ] we believe "this season will be different " as ever" Dont change my feelings though. I think MoN is here for the long haul, what jobs are on offer right now? If the ex Chelsea geezer, dont get the next Man U job,. Then Id worry. until then Pffutt.
Spot on Syd - like you I am a long termer used to more false dawns than brilliant sunsets. Given the situation we are in now I also feel that things have never been better since the 50s and "all-star" team. The stars in this case are in the boardroom and if they have the determination to do what they have said they wanted for the club then the time is now ripe. Hanging on to our better players, recruiting a couple more (anyone MON signs is good enough for me) - and maintaining what appears to be a fighting spirit then the only way is up.
"Just as important will be retaining the likes of Sess and Mclean, sorting out who is number 1 in goal." We are going to play Sess and MacLean in goal? Oh I must've missed the news that Bruce is back!
Dont you come on here with ya long words, whem MrRAW ets up he will tell me what that means then I will know if you should be banned
How many times have I thought, this could be the end of Bardo and how many times has he proved me wrong
There is something very insidious about this image... Back to the OP...Good article Syd which certainly rang a lot of bells for how I feel...
How times can change.. Remember this fella................must have been a dodgy curry at Seaham hall that put him off.. A close shave this one was.... Alex McLeish and Charles N'Zogbia were involved in a furious dressing-room bust-up following Aston Villa's defeat at Newcastle on Sunday. The France international and his manager had a face-to-face confrontation in front of startled team-mates after the 2-1 defeat. The 25-year-old winger made his feelings known on Twitter afterwards, saying he had never been so unhappy playing football. Syd remember how many threads and posts we had to read about this fella? It was a nightmare............well a cyber nightmare...
Maybe that was what swayed him not to sign... Getting a crew cut of Gazza whilst the Geordie was dressed in a dressing gown, with a four pack of Carlsberg special brew in one hand.... Enough to make most think twice.... Anyhow, cheers Gazza, you done us a favour.
