    ha ha.

Just had a 4 week fight to shake off my winter pouch mate, used to fall off, but hitting 32 , **** me it was tougher to shift.

As mentioned earlier in thread, running is best, I did some steep hill runs, tuck shirt in, makes a difference!

Gyms are all as good as eachother, when I lived in Toon I used JJB in Byker, good equipment, decent rates <ok>

I'm going the same way...Was up to running 10 milers 3 times a week and picked up a thigh injury (I'm ridiculously injury prone - had to stop playing footy 'cause of it), stopped exercising all together, took to smoking lots of weed for the pain, bought Skyrim for the PS3 and got a girlfriend (not 2 things you see pieced together very often)...All of these things led to me packing the weight on...The missus is off on holiday in 2 weeks so I said I'd be all supportive and join in with her 'bikini body' weightloss...Been 29 minutes so far!

At least you have the motivation to get there though, thats always my problem, I work up to 55 hours a week some weeks and after that I can barely be arsed to do anything never mind going for a run and hitting the gym, just gonna have to power through it I suppose.

JJB would be a good shout but its quite a trek from where Iam, moving into a new flat next month and its a lot more than what I'm paying now so can't really afford travel aswell as paying for the gym, not for a while anyway.

Is there anything you use to monitor your work outs when your running? I always feel like I've done too little when I'm out for a run and always feel a bit disheartened about it afterwards.

It's absolute ****e when you get yourself into a rut and can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, eating badly is my main issue, I tend to just order takeaways all the time or chuck a pizza in the oven and just massively into that habit now and the weight has slowly but surely piled on. Everyone knows diet is 70% of getting into shape aswell.

Good luck with it! 29 minutes and counting...;)

No mate, I don't monitor anything.

We live just at the foot of the mountains here in Marbella, so there are some real inclines, rather than monitoring, we do sets, so, do 5 or so short runs (maybe only 15-20 metres, but as i say, real steep inclines here), then 10 long ones.

I've always believed in working harder when I feel more worn out, and trusted what my brain is telling me about whether it's been a good workout or not, then I can push myself naturally , rather than have a machine tell me when to stop.

Don't get me wrong, i'm FAR from a fitness freak, but I do try and keep it on a level, besides hill runs, 5-a-side and swimming, all I do is 2 sets of 60 reps with 15k bells a day, i'll never be a big muscley, fit ****er, but I look alright, and feel generally well!

I'm thin naturally, but also have the dreaded gene that adds weight to stomach and sides, so through winter, i look like i've been rolling pinned, haha.

As I said, I used to do a fair of running and will be trying to get back into it...As someone who is so injury prone, I do have to monitor my runs 'cause quite often your lungs and muscles will feel fitter than the rest of you and this leads to tendon and ligament injuries (or at least it does for me)

The best thing I can suggest is give yourself a time frame and a distance (i.e. being able to run 5 miles without stopping within 4 weeks) start yourself off with a reasonable distance - something that will push you enough to want to stop at some point, but realistic enough so that you can push on through the pain barrier without doing any damage...

After you've done that a couple of times, add another half mile or mile on and keep going, adding on a little more until before the time is up, you complete the final distance...This way you can build up in a healthy way, avoiding injuries that do nothing for the motivation (or the belt size) and get a feeling of proper satisfaction when you hit the distance...Generally I feel so happy with myself, I set another goal and keep building up!

Other top tip is music! iPod Shuffles are £40 but are great for running...Download new songs or find a CD you haven't listened to in ages and don't let yourself listen to them too much unless your running - that way you feel more motivated to get out and get running and it makes the running easier if you're distracted by a belter track!

You could check out your local community centres, sometimes they have pretty decent Gyms, we've got some really good ones in South Tyneside and the regulars that use them are often really helpful.
I don't know what it's like else where in the region, but the big craze here at the moment is 'Boot Camps' lot's of my friends are joining them.

Could always get involved in a 5 a side league or go for long walks. Both free and get results.

How about Complete Football at Gosforth Park, next to the racecourse? I work for the NHS and pay only £20 per month.

    Never go mind:p

Appreciate all the replies chaps, think I'm going to start off by going running every night after work, planned a night little route around my area which is about 3 miles in total, gonna start at a slow pace and try and build up.

Gonna have to look around for a good gym, theres apparently one just opened up in town next to the gate, meant to be cheap as chips and open 24 hours.

I used to run. Take my advice -

When you first start don't do every night! Also if you're running on concrete it's vital that you wear proper jogging shoes, as the contact impact can **** up your ****!

Start off doing it every two days, then build yourself up to do 2 days, then 1 night off.

Trust me, when I first did it, I got through 5 consecutive days of running 2-3 miles in around 30-40 mins. Then all of a sudden my legs just started aching like mad, and I couldn't run for 3 weeks.

You need to build yourself up. Do one day, take a rest. You don't even need to eat a really healthy diet, just cut out the take aways, have no more than one a week.

Dude, get an App called nikeplus. It's the dogs and even tracks your GPS and calorie burn.
It syncs online so you have all the data you can get...
