Well good, I say! Now I know it sounds a lot like a childish rant..."I didn't want it anyway", but I've been thinking about this for a few weeks. Do you want players at the club, who want to come in and play in Europe's top competition? How have they earned it? Because lets be honest, most of these alleged players, are not currently playing CL at their current clubs. So they expect the existing team to get them their, and they just drop in and reap the rewards. So I think we could have a good summer in the transfer market, because we can't offer any players, any kind of European football, so they won't be signing for that reason, also I don't think we'd buy any money grabbers either. So I think we stand the chance of buying a couple of players who will want to be their to earn the right to play CL football.
Plus I'd argue that we'll be pushing for champions' league next season anyway (if all goes to plan). Surely any respectable player would be content to wait a season. If not they can go to Olympiakos.
Spot on, it all comes down to the attitude of the player. You can take the likes of Alonso, who I'm sure would still come to Liverpool despite us being unable to offer Champions league football. He would have the right attitude to win things, he wouldn't leave by choice and he would put in 100% every game. Or the likes of Torres who is immense (or was) when fully fit and firing, but he will sulk every other game, leave as soon as form starts to dip and demand to be the center of the team. It usually ends up being that the ones who consider "Champions league football" are those who are also looking for the largest pay checks.
It doesn't matter what competitions we are in, if they don't want to play for us they can **** off. The OP is spot on.
The OP is spot on. They have to want to play for the club first and foremost.Europe is secondary.Europe when pulling together is achievable.Thats,manager,players,owners,fans.
I have to ask this question. How many United players seen Champions league football before going to United?
Off the top of my head, of current players VDS, Evra, Ferdinand, Vidic (qualifying rounds with RSB), Nani, Park, Hargreaves, Anderson and Berbatov had all played in the CL before joining Utd. I think Carrick and Rooney are the only established players we signed that had absolutely no CL football, although Vidic, Nani and Anderson had only played a handful of games.
My point is that they didn't all come because of CL footy, they all made a move to a bigger club and probably all would have signed if yernited were not in the CL the following year. Whats wrong, pop a vein in your eye havin an angry ****?
True, but at least a few of them were probably attracted by the fact we were in the CL. At the end of the day, I don't think not being in the CL will be a major problem for your rebuilding efforts, but I can see a couple of situations where it might be a problem: If you're trying to sign a player who's in the prime of his career, around 26-28, they may not be willing to wait for you to get back in. Particularly if they aren't sure you'll make it back in the next couple of years. After all, all players will be aware of how much City are spending, and the CL history of the other three. If they're making what might be the last big move of their career, they may want CL football straight away. Of course the FSG plan doesn't seem to rely on those types of players, so that won't be a big problem. The big problem could come if another big club is bidding for the same player. Like, for example, if both Utd and Liverpool bid the same amount of Ashley Young. Young would probably be equally happy to play for either club based on their respective profiles, but the fact that Utd have CL football straight away may be enough to make the difference. With Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea all likely to make big signings this summer, not to mention all the Serie A and Bundesliga clubs that flopped in Europe this year, that may cost you a fair few first choice signings...
not to mention all the Serie A and Bundesliga clubs that flopped in Europe this year, that may cost you a fair few first choice signings... All these teams have had problems in the league as well and I feel you can get a price cut on some. For example look at Werder Bremen, in the CL huge flop, bad season in Bundesliga, I can guarentee Marin will not be as much as he was. Same with Fiorentina last year, did really well with the CL and clubs looked at vargas, gilardino got his profile back up, varas, montolivo, Jovetic. Now they are struggling and all of those players could go much much cheaper. In Germany you can look at some of the quality in Stuttgart, Wolfsburg, Bremen and get really good deals while anything for Leverkusen players or Dortmund players would be huge right now. Roles reversed and it was the complete opposite story. Basically, sometimes a bad campaign can lead to gaining a player for a lot less than trying to get him after ending the season on a high.
Ultimately you want players who will play for your club, not for the compitition. The Liverpool players are certain the club are going in the right direction, no doubt they will speak to there mates and advise on the clubs plans and ambitions, and will be selling the clubs aim of Champions league football in the future. So who will they attract? Carra and Gerrard have the respect of all British footballers Riena the respect of Spanish players Lucas and Suarez the South American lads This players alone could be the influance the club needs rather then one trophy
