No go on Coentrao, he just joined Madrid for 25mil. We are battling aparently for Diego ( I hope so!!!), Mccarthy, Parker, and N'Zog it seems. Other than Diego and probably N'Zog I don't think McCarthy or Parker would help much.

McCarthy has the ingredients to be a top,top player imo...
He needs better players around him though.
I didn't rate him before, but i've watched a few full mathes and he has stood out.

Contreao to Madrid? Their left back Marcelo has been one of their best players this season, so I can't see him getting much game time. If he goes, I'd expect to see him on the market again in a couple of years having struggled to get in the side. The thing about Madrid is people go there to 'win' things, but apart from this season's Spanish cup, what have they won in the past 4 years? That was Alonso's first trophy. He won a lot more with us. Barcelona have been cleaning up, and will do so for a few more seasons yet.

We're already well stocked in centre mid, and unless somebody becomes available and represents exceptional value for money, I don't think we need anyone. So the likes of Mccarthy and Parker I'm not overly hopeful of. Would like Diego in though, and N'Zogbia. Both for under 20m would be a great bit of business.

Fair enough four2, I haven't seen enough of him really. I know he is young so it is one of those helping " in the now" or would he be part of a longer revival with youth, that what you are going with?

He's a longer term player, but I would assume he would be ahead of Shelvey in the pecking order- probably about level with Spearing.
He has a bit of everything, and I'm sure he'll add more goals to his game as he gets older.

However, he seems to have his head screwed on, and won't move simply to join a big club...He's likely to only leave once first team football is assured. <ok>
Another season at Wigan probably wouldn't hurt him.

Apologies if this has already been mentioned, as I only skimmed through the comments, but we look set to miss out on Eden Hazard, who has pledged his immediate future to Lille according to Talksport (Admittedly not the most reliable source :p) and M'vila who has signed a contract extension

bit gutted about that to be honest as they would have been my first choice signings

Emilio Izaguirre rumour seems to be hanging around, don't really watch SPL games so know him by rep only.

Aguero wants out..... go .... and ..... get him! That as a first signing to show we mean business, followed by Diego, Vargas, and a LB and it's shake and bake time! Also a DM type player but that could be Adam I think, not my first choice but not a bad one either.

I think we all admit that our problem areas are out wide and at left back. Just looking at Premier League players -

I personally wouldn't mind N'Zogbia. He's quick and direct and does something that none of the rest of our players can do (bar Saurez) and that's go past a player. He's shone in an average Wigan team but also scored goals, which is more difficult in a bad team than it is in a good team. I'm sure he'd jump at the chance to move to us rather than have another season fighting relegation with Wigan.

The other player I wouldn't mind seeing would be Downing. I know a lot of people don't like him but I think of him in the same way as when we signed Reira. A proper left winger who will stay out wide, work a bit of space and put in a decent cross. May not be the best player but with big Andy in the box we should definately be trying to work to his strengths as much as possible. With this in mind a cheeky bid for Baines wouldn't be too bad either - see how desperate Everton are to keep hold of him. He reminds me of a younger Aurelio. Escellent crosser. Good at free kicks. Good defensively and probably has a bit more pace. Not quite as injury prone either.

Depending on how much Kenny is given and player sales, we might have enough for another CB. Carra is getting on and even though excellent, cant go on forever and I don't believe we can rely on Agger to play 40 games a season which would leave Skrtel (who has improved massively since KK & SC came in) as the only other senior CB. Kelly could also move into his natural position. Hangeland would be a great buy and offer a threat from set pieces and with the uncertainty going on at Fulham with regards to Mark Hughes we might be able to prise him away.

I did like Hangeland, but he seems to have gone off it a bit towards the end of the season. Always thought of him as a ready made replacement for Hyypia, although I'm not so sure any more. Could just be an end of season blip though. But I agree with you on N'Zogbia. Would be nice to have someone who can zigzag his way through players at pace.

Oh, and welcome to the site mate!

According to a spanish newspaper, we have agreed a fee of $25m for Fábio Coentrão although just the other day the same newspaper reported Real Madrid had signed him so no idea if this is a completely out there rumour or has some truth in it.

Would be very good if true though.

Aquilani's agent says clubs could eke out a deal this week or next.

Is anybody else getting a whiff that Alonso might be returning? I had the essence of a thoughtette when he was over to celebrate Maxi's kid being born that possibly there were "talks". Since then there's been some statements from both sides, Alonso more than once bringing up why he had to leave (again today in the Mirror) and Kenny talking about players returning, that have made me ponder.

Yeah, that's what I said a few posts ago. Real Madrid just seem to snap up any iota of talent before anyone else can get there, waste them on the bench for two years, then sell them for half the price they bought them for (Van der Vaart, Robben, Sneider...)

Hangelaand...maybe 3-4 years ago.Someone with prem experience?Cahill or Phil Jones,or Scott Dann.Scott Dann would jump at the chance to return home. He's a Liverpool lad.
Nzogbia.Maybe he could do a ''Ray Houghton job''.We however for the other side need a lung-buster,a speed merchant, someone that will dove-tail with Suarez and start out wide but come centrally and do damage,Ashley Young would be ideal,Hazard is another,If not Nzogbia, how about Affeley?

affeley coud be a bargain but i feel nzogbia would be similar to how yossi was for us, beating a few players and scoring crucial goals

Affeley is a wideman,We already have Maxi and Pacheco to play the ''neither a winger or a central midfielder role'' aka ''pocket player''.So thats why we don't need Nzogbia. We need natural width.Nzogbia doesn't provide that.
