Pearson's words on friday's game with Watford and the prospect of promoting Hull City with a win on friday night http://www.thisishullandeastriding.co.uk/story-18799701-detail/story.html?#axzz2REDZLVaq With just a day to go has anyone else thought the week actually went quite quickly?
Good lad Nigel. I bet it makes him sick, but it's either that or get the sack. I doubt he dreamt of this when Leicester started tempting him away.
I would imagine that Nigel has a slight bit of regret in leaving us the way he did, but i would imagine if we had'nt have got Steve Bruce onboard we would not be in the same position we are now. Nigel must look at the league table and see us flying high, And it must grate on him that a win for Leicester will inadvertantly send us up, but they have no choice as he is fighting for his job and Leicester to remain in the playoffs!!!
It's amazing that there is an actual industry with money to be made from getting this kind of interview. "The manager just wants to win and isn't focusing on anything else." Does anyone read that and think they've learnt something?
I bet he's giving us less thought than some of us are giving him. He's just focused on Leicester, and getting to the playoffs. Seems silly to think he'd even give us a second thought. He moved on, some on here should do the same. We wouldn't have been in the position we were without him and thinking slightly differently on this really tedious argument now, I doubt we would have seemed as attractive a club to SB if not for NPs work for us. He might do us a favour, but that's only from our perspective, not something he's setting out to do, he's trying to do his team a favour.
People seemingly read that it'll be ironic, and quirk of fate and that he'll have regrets. I agree with your summary of the article, its a non story fluffed up the press then blown out of proportion by fans.
I'm actually astonished that NP had the cheek to suggest that all he is looking at is getting a result for his team to bolster their chances of the play offs. Everyone knows that what he is really thinking is "if I can get a win that will result in my previous employer getting automatic promotion, and if my current team gets a play off place as well, which would save my job, that would be an added bonus"
I disagree on the Taylor part actually. He has / had his limitations and was undoubtedly a good manager for us at that time when he had a budget most if not all of the teams at that level couldve dreamed of. He however had taken us as far as he could and got out at the perfect time before he undid all his excellent work. Im not putting Taylor down here btw, he did better than Molby and Little (at the end of his term) who both had the same budgets to use. Taylor was exactly what we needed at that time but he would never have got us promoted to the Prem.
He's the same as NP then? Except y'know, Taylor achieved something. I think Nigel would have been sacked when the Allams finally sacked Adam anyway, so him jumping ship is kind of irrelevant.
I would think PT's budget was much greater then previous managers. Our average gates under PT (after the KC move) were at least double and I'm sure this would have had a huge effect on money available for players.
I don't know about wages but Little and Molby spent a lot on transfer fees didn't they? When they signed the likes of Dudfield, Alexander, Ashbee, Green and Elliott.
Ive said exactly the same myself. There is no way in a million years Bruce wouldve taken the job if he had inherited what Nigel did. FACT. Pearson did the dirty work and Bruce has made the most of beaing dealt a better hand.
At the time the criticism was that PT refused to spend big and he often talked of not wanting to sign players on much bigger wages in order to not upset the group. In the bottom 2 divisions did he sign anyone on fees the likes we saw spent on Dudfield, Alexander and Elliott? Ash was a free, released after not being good enough for Cambridge. Oh how their fans laughed as we signed him. Now he's the most important player in our entire history and achieved a unique feat in British football that if he played for a more glamorous club the media wouldve ****ed over. It's a serious point - why isnt Ash a household name amongst football fans?
This must be Nigel's worst scenario, needing to win and at the same time promoting the team he walked out on.
Regardless of what he did for us (and he did rebuild the defence/give SB a starting hand)......I ****ing love it!!!
To be honest, I don't think he'll be bothered about us, will be entirely focused on doing right for his own club.
