Imagine this bad boy at the front of a three with Remy and HBA.
Of course Cisse would be benched but maybe he would be beter coming off the bench.

We were first linked with CSKA Moscow striker Seydou Doumbia over two years ago, and it’s not surprising the Magpies will be linked with a number strikers before January, because it’s very likely the Tyneside club will bring in a striker we tried to sign in the summer, but failed during that transfer window.

It could be Bafe Gomis of Lyon, who will be a cut price deal in January with his contract running out next summer, , but Newcastle will likely look at other potential strikers through the end of this year before deciding who to bring in.

Newcastle have been watching Doumbia closely over the last year, and the 20 times Ivory Coast International looks a very good striker.

Everton are also said to be interested in the 25 year-old , and both Newcastle and Everton have on loan strikers in Loic Remy from QPR and Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea respectively, and will be wanting to strengthen their striker department.

The news today of Newcastle and Everton’s interest in the player is in Izvestia, and the former BSC Young Boys player joined the rich Moscow club in 2010, after 57 goals in just 78 appearances, and in Russia the 5’10″ striker has 57 goals in 88 appearances, so he knows how to put the ball into the back of the net.

A year ago his transfer price was quoted at £16M, and there was no way Newcastle would be interested in the player at that price, and still wouldn’t be.

The Abidjan-born player is currently under contract with CSKA Moscow until the end of June of 2015, so a lot will depend on what his transfer fee is, as always, if Newcastle are to bring this player to Tyneside.

He's a beast. If we could somehow produce a right footed Dummett to act as understudy to Debuchy and then sign Doumbia, the squad would be near enough complete. Not big, as such, but he's so strong and quick; I just always assumed he was in an echelon of footballers we couldn't get.

He'd be a quality signing. Too much £ for Mike to stomach though surely?

We can dream though. Imagine the scary scary pace we'd have in attack with Doumbia central, Remy left, HBA right and Gouff covering. Too good to be true!

That said, it seems like it's Newcastle's turn on the rumour mill, with Sam Byram and Aaron Lennon also 'linked' today.

I think we'll buy in January again. We always do. And we never disappoint in January. I propose that we never, ever pay any attention whatsoever to the Summer Transfer Window ever again. I've said before that we're a January Window club under Ashley, so think we'll get at least two in then. But let's always, always assume that there will be no arrivals, ever, at SJP in the Summer. Life will be so much less disappointing if we do.

Tbh I think if we are placed above half way I think Ashley will only go after Gomis because he will be a cut price bargain.

Good player but I just couldn't see them forking out. Its much more likely to be someone on the contract run down. I'm sure both Pilkington and Long run out next summer?

I was thinking this very thing today. As we're all aware, Ashley is a gambler and his regular gamble with us is how we get on until January. Last season recruits were required as we were struggling big time and he could see things getting worse. Thus the recruiting of five new players. The previous season, we were looking up and a bit of fine tuning, through the canny signing of Cisse, resulted in a top five finish and very nearly a Champions League place. It appears he's gonna continue rolling the dice and see how his investment pans out over the next four months. I would say, as before, league position will dictate the level of investment made in January. The appeal of knockdown prices of contracts that are running down, cannot be underestimated. Ashley knows he get's better value in January and knows he's got the selling clubs right where he wants them.
