The original QPR "Number 10", many would say the best, turns 69 today. Here is a reminder of the man at work
Yep, my original hero, remember sitting on the bog as a 6 year old singing, "he's here, he's there, he's every flipping where, Rodney Marsh, Rodney Marsh" and Dad bursting in pissing himself laughing and calling out to my Mum "love, we got a rangers boy on our hands" Mind, once Stanley started weaving his magic all over Loftus Road, Rodney was always the bridesmaid for me. Different type of players, aye, but Bowles was sublime!
ggotta say, I d like to see how any of todays teams in the NPC could have stopped any of those goals. Take fitness out of the equation and most of those goals would have gone in in todays NPC Great post..brings back the reason I fell in love with QPR..... I'd rather him than Adel.......!!!..

When I was a lad, Rodney was QPR, he brought a Hollywood-type allure to the club and everybody was talking about him and the goals he scored. The reason I became a QPR fan.
Definitely the best for me, with Stan a close second. I was just a kid, so it didn't register so much at the time, but thinking back to plaintive Rooood-neeee call which used to echo round the ground brings shivers.
Sad for me that my view on him was really tainted when i saw him at his book signing in the club shop a couple of seasons back. Was moaning to his minder that fans were bringing up shirts and programmes for him to sign, when he was only gonna sign his book he was flogging. If it continued he threatened to walk out. Fair enough it was him making a few quid, but it just came over as a bit arrogant and somewhat pious. Anyway.....Happy Birthday Rodney.
Staines..you are right mate. i played a while for a season named after him whilst he lived in tampa. When our chairman heard he was visiting the UK we invited him to come watch his Sunday League Side. To our amazment he actually turned up. he stay about 20 mins then said to one of our supporters " they aint very good are they' before wandering off to his motor.!! Would have been nice to at least say hello after making all that effort. Was a real let down for me and although he was grat in the hoops, i think he turned into a bit of a to**Er....esp when he wa doing his tours!! Shame really
44 goals in 66-67, some record at any level. A rare combination of flair plus goal-scoring talent, you'll not see many better hat-tricks than that one against Brum. Thanks for the memories Rodney and many happy returns...
Rodney was just before my time for starting to watch Rangers, but my Brother, who introduced me to Loftus Rd absolutely worshipped him. Clearly a fantastic player. For me Stan was more skillfull but Rodney was probably a better goal scorer. Both fantastic talents for sure. Happy Birthday Rodneeeeeeeeeeee!
During the 1969-1970 season I was working as Ron Philips office boy and programme seller. Rodney Marsh was my hero as a kid in the 1960's and he was always flash. He had a white sports car with the number plate EGO1. And he seemed to have a different bird every week. My favourite was Carol White, the blonde actress who was in Poor Cow. Her dad was a totter from Battersea. I remember an evening game when Terence Stamp and David Hemmings were his guests and they came to the little hut in Ellerslie Road and I gave them their tickets. Rodney was also deaf in one ear and was quite a good artist. He used to draw all the other players and also did a good portrait of Alec Stock. Fantastic player with incredible ball skills and good in the air. He was also as strong as an ox. Happy Birthday Rodnee...
Rodney was a bit before my time. Whenever I see him on the tele, I don't think he comes across as very pro-QPR. Maybe that's just me. Anyways, talking of birthdays, I understand from Inky that yesterday (Saturday), it would have been Alan Mc Donald's 50th Birthday. Now, there's a true QPR legend I can identify with. QPR through and through and always spoke highly of the club. He is my all time QPR hero. Happy Birthday Macca.
I think Rodders has always held QPR very close to his heart, doesn't come across that way sometimes though. As for Alan Mcdonald, I have to agree he was Rangers to the core and sadly missed.
