Lots of players let go who could do a very good job in League 2 (Jacobson, Weale, Parry, Summerfield, Hall) but I suppose wages and the desire of the new manager to fashion his own team play a part. I am happy to see Woods, Wildig, Taylor, and Grandison signed up (hopefully with Goldson and Bradshaw to sign soon) and presumably one of our promising young keepers will step up to the mark. The player I will be most sad to see go is Jacobson who is very reliable and a natural captain but we do not have the advantage of knowing what goes on behind the scenes. It will be fascinating to see the calibre and type of player we will sign and I am going to look on the optimistic side and hope we can be pushing for promotion again next season or at least having a decent season in building towards that.
It had to happen. People have been positive about 80% of the players individually but as a team they were ****e. Central midfield has gained the service of wildig but needs a bully of a player alongside him to break up opposition attacks. Fullbacks have been a weakness all season and although I would have kept Jacobson we needed a RB. Now we need at least three or four to fill those roles alongside the wingers and three strikers!! A busy summer ahead.
Jacobson is the saddest loss for me....we produce the rocks on which to build and then they go. Having watched Sharps at Burton (and SCS), it seems like we are a bit cavalier in getting rid of useful players. However, let's see what this busy summer brings.....apart from a storming performance by our ex-keeper at the World Cup Talking of goalies.....what's the logic behing getting rid of both keepers? Either was good enough (at least) for Division 2....let's hope there is a cunning plan for at least one tried and tested keeper.
It is odd to have got rid of anyon as well as weale. I thought anyon did a good enough job when he came on on the latter stages of the season. He surely would have been cheaper too so how does that fit in with the cost question?
Matster, For our midfield bully signing how about Griffiths recently released by Vale. Always thought he was a dominant force in midfield.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthony_Griffith " He has struggled with his inconsistent and at times inaccurate distribution skills, though he does have a decent passing range. He has also been praised for his tremendous work ethic" " In addition to his on-the-pitch skills, he is also considered to be a good character off of it." Sounds like he has the right DNA for us!
probably bradshaw got a new contract because of his goal scoring prowess. you knew i would bite! he did well up until long term injury, ignored by turner and jackson. gets fit and starts scoring again. if we had his services all season we may have just escaped relegation. i suspect he may be off, he has not re signed yet. when is the deadline.
