Wenger reminds me of the Fast Show charchter played by Mark Williams who'd have a list of simple items to get from the shops but would come back with the most random products he could find. We've not signed anyone yet but rumors and indications are that YET AGAIN our main transfers targets are not the players we desperately need in the team. *We need at least first and foremost 1 strong centre back and it seems that's Samba or Cahill both of whom have question marks over their real ability and valuation? *We need a left back to replace Clichy (wether he wants to leave or not) and have only been linked with an average Enrique *We need a strong defensive midfielder to back up/replace Song *We need a quality centre forward capable of playing with or in place of Van Persie (Benzema and Falco were dreams) Yet it seems our main goals are 4-5 skillful attacking players? I know the transfer window doesn't open until July 1st but the past 5 or so transfer windows have shown Wenger's lack of focus to buy whats needed for the team surplus luxury items. How hard was it to go get a keeper better than Almunia? Or find a centre back better than Squillaci or Silvestre? Wenger...make the purchases we obviously need!!
These skilful attacking player may just be replacements for Nasri and Rosicky so I think they are necessary. I can't disagree that we should be focusing on defensive acquisitions though.
So you don't think being unable to break down the likes of Blackburn and Sunderland contributed to our poor end of season run just as much as bad defending? Defenders will be signed, I'm sure of that. But we need additions in attacking areas too, particularly if Nasri and/or Fabregas piss off. We probably need a change in our style of play and tempo at times too. Also, you are basing your theory (and therefore this whole thread) of what Arsenal's 'main goals' are on rumours in the likes of the Daily Mail and News of the World, AND there's like 9 weeks of the transfer window left. Think about that..
