We are a fickle bunch aren't we...

A month ago, the majority of fans were cautiously optimistic about the season, if not wary of the lack of a prolific striker. One fairly poor but by no means disastrous start later, Pardew is public enemy number one again and people are actually going as far as tipping us to get relegated!? Are we not jumping the gun a bit here?

Sure the new signings, Janmaat excluded, haven't settled as fast as we'd have liked, but only a handful of players come into this league all guns blazing, Coloccini, Enrique, Debuchy, Ba, Cabaye all needed a month or even more to get up and running but all are now considered amongst our best players of the last 5-10 years, in fact, look at the players who have got off to great starts, namely Cisse, HBA and Sissoko, and you're looking at 3 of our most inconsistent and frustrating players of recent times.

We're building a new team with plenty of potential, and have one of the brightest prospects in the league at the moment, but a slow start, and all of a sudden its the end of the world. Give them time and I'm sure they'll come good, but all that said, if we're still around the relegation places in a months time I will start to worry, but for now I'm going to stick with Pardew's words and not judge the team until after 10 games.

If we had replaced HBA, Jonas and MYM I'd have maintained my optimism but we are weaker than last season by a mile now.
Don't forget that players take time to bed in and time is something we may not have the luxury of.
We will be in the relegation places in a month I'm sure.
We will get a maximum 4 points from the next 6 games I'm sure.

Plus the other relegation type teams are strengthening.

It's not the start that has made me bitter, though it has been lacklustre. It's the potential finish to the transfer window - loaning/selling Mbiwa and not replacing and no proven source of goals. It's not good enough and another opportunity missed for the sake of saving a few more pennies.
