i have nightmares of pav being a superstar at another club which i think is quite possible..he has great skill....something not right in the head
I've been angry with Defoe (as we all have been) for having been one of the worst strikers ever in our entire history, last season. But, now I've had a few weeks to reflect on the matter, it's probably down to the system that Harry was playing, using VDV to push up from midfield and score goals for himself. The simple fact is, that Defoe has not be utilised in the same way he has been in the past, namely to run off the shoulder of the last defender to latch onto the balls that are pumped through to him from midfield. I'm really hoping that Harry and the other coaches will teach Defoe how to link up the play and to get more involved in the game at an earlier stage than he has been previously used to. He certainly has the speed and the control to be able to do that, it's all whether or not he has the desire to buckle down to learn the new drills. If he does, he could be an awesome player for us, again.
no shelf......pav! i have seen more in pav than i did in that bloke that made shevchenko the player that he is..... ohh i see a bit of a pattern here......... these Russians..former USSR members call em what you will..dont do too well in our shores!
I don't know why everybody has such a downer on Defoe. The fact that he didn't score many last season was down to a combination of, injury, the system Harry was using to accomodate VDV, and IMO, the undermining of his confidence by Harry, by leaving him on the bench so much. O.k. he had a poor season, but let's not forget, Defoe is a proven premiership goalscorer when utilised properly. Those ain't easy to come by, nowadays! He's a confidence player, but when he's being used properly, and he's on his game, there ain't many better in the Premiership.
Back in January we were valuing Kranjcar at £6.5m, so I have no idea where the £12m valuation came from.
If you look at Defoe's stats throughout his Spurs career he is inconsistent. Not in the usual way across a season, but rather he scores in the region of 20 goals one season then no more than 10 the next. Last year he scored 9 in all comps, still almost a goal every three games. Not good enough, granted, but statistically he is due a good season this year.
We are valuing Kranjcar at £12M because we want the highest possible profit to balance out our potential loses from other players. We are not going to make a profit or break even with Bently and Keane, so we need to slap on a good price for Niko. If we sold him for £12M (I hear PSG are on a spending spree) then that would be a £10 million profit, balancing out the loss we will make selling other players i.e. Bently.
I think we're pricing him at £12m because we're not bothered about selling him. We have various other players that we'd rather see the back of and if he's still there when the window shuts, then what have we lost?
The fans will be on his back like wolves on sheep if it's deemed his performances are being affected - and he doesn't strike me as someone who is that thick skinned to not let it bother them?
