In my opinion no it's not we definatly need a goalscorer I think that's obvious after this pre season we have had, defo is on 60,000 a week at tottenham I think he might even come for 50,000 a week if we garentee him first team football for me it would be a scandal if we don't sign the man or someone like him! Bruce will lose his job after 10 games!

Decent player but can take him or leave him. Want to see Ji and Wickham given game time. I don't like the sound of us signing someone to rely on, solely, for goals.

Welcome from me Caaal. All i will say is if we are to bust our wage cap, I want to do it on somebody a bit more marquee than Defoe. My opinion, but I don't think he is worth it.

Gyan's supposedly on £65,000. Bent was on a similar figure. All this talk of breaking our wage structure for Defoe/Zog/Johnson/whoever isn't quite accurate.

Where does that come from Disco? Not disputing it, but if thats the case N'zog wasn't going to break the bank, was he?
    Are we skint?

Gives me hope that there is a plan b.

Just various reports when Gyan signed and when Bent left. Seemed to be the general consensus so I imagine it in that ball park.

N'Zog wasn't going to break the bank in my eyes, neither would Defoe, It's just whether they're value for money or not that's the question!

All the evidence supports the fact that we are trying to recoup some money. Afterall we have been after N'Zog for a while and by all accounts needed a LW so it looks like we couldn't afford him. IMO we are still two players short if we want to improve on last season but I'm not holding out much hope but Sunderland have a habbit of doing things you don't expect!

Sorry Sid who would you like us to realistically sign? Look at Defoes goalscoring record for both England and clubs...!! The man would be a fantastic signing! In my opinion

Don't agree, I'm afraid. England form means nowt and he scores in patches. When he's good, he's very, very good and when he's bad he's ****e. Who would I realistically sign? No idea at all. But then I'm not paid a seven-figure salary to know. That's where Bruce earns his corn.

We all know when the transfer window opens and if we aren't ready with a list of targets then that's our problem. Only Bruce, SNQ and Ellis Short know what's "realistic" for the club.

I thought 50k a week was our wage cap and that's what Gyan is on. Short who is our owner is certainly not skint he recently made 4 billion from a business deal, that's 4 thousand million. I think to be quite honest Quinn is trying to run the club the right way, he is playing the long game, we are building a team for the future and were avoiding players who are greedy and will upset the apple cart.

I don't think we should be scared of breaking the wage cap but, as Bobby said, I'd rather do it for a better player than Defoewhich is unfortunately a player that we can't attract at the moment (a la Samba)

Defoe would be a step in the right direction. He's played champions league football and scored consistently in the premier league. He also adds in build up play, which at times can hinder his goalscoring imo

Didn't he say recently that he didn't want to leave London? I read somewhere that Fulham were sniffing around...

I think Defoe could do a job for us but I won't lose any sleep if he doesn't come-Bellamy is a better option-lets see what Ji and Wickham can do;I feel thry will surprise a lot of us.
