Mane is too good a player to let go. Simple as that.

The fee maybe "big" but what does that matter anymore? Fans still seem to think this is 2005 and we need every penny to survive. We don't, we have spunk loads of money. More money than we can actually spend (because we won't be buying players for £30m+ because those kinds of players won't come here)

Oh yes they are. There are people acting on here like kids that didn't get there desired present on Christmas Day. It is quite honestly pathetic behaviour and it is the same every year. Narrow minded and blinkered. Why don't they just take a deep breath and see what happens. I am unhappy that Mane is leaving, but I am not making silly statements about the club.

Maybe some people should open their minds up and think what the club will do after we have sold a player. Maybe they could look back at what we've done before. If Mane comes and says I want off with two years left on his contract, what do you do? Keep him a year and sell him for less? Keep him for two years and let him go for free? Risk him not performing because he is not happy? Or sell him for a very good price?

We had an article giving us hope that Koeman and Mane were staying because that is what the club wanted and hoped for too. What do they do when someone changes their mind?

Beefy, you can say that until you are Pompey Blue in the face. Some fans won't listen and don't want to listen.

What you are saying is correct, but now ask yourself why? Try and think about the reasons why this happens and then you may find it easier to take. I am not taking the piss or being rude, just trying to help.

Right CBK, you are in control. Agent walks in and tells you his player will not be signing a new contract and want to join team X. What do you do?

Keep the player. He's under contract. If he see's out his contract and goes for nothing, so be it. The money isn't critical. Having a good player for another season, is.

Unfortunately whether we like it or not football is a business. Over 20 million profit from one player is too good to turn down. When mane signed we all knew it was a stepping stone for him. If we sign 3 players for the 30 mill and one of them is a success and sell them to Liverpool for a profit then we can repeat the steps until we are a big/successful enough club to keep our superstars. We just aren't there YET.....

That is always a gamble. Worked with Morgan, but doesn't always work. A few people were looking hard at Vic early last season, particularly the Europa game when he didn't fancy it.

For me, they've dealt with the situation and could have gone either route. Important we spend it back on the squad.

Keep an unhappy player and take the £36m (plus wages) hit? I suppose we just disagree on what the best decision for the club is. If Mane made noises that he wanted to leave then only decision for the squad is to get as much money as possible. It's hard as he's so so difficult to replace.

I trust the club more than I trust any individual player or agent.

As disappointed as I am with the sale of Mane, I just hope we have his replacement in the wings and is also a success.
Being honest I knew nothing of Mane when he signed for us, fingers crossed we have another jem on the way.

The only thing I am concerned with is we keep selling to teams who are around us/should be our rivals. Other than that, would you prefer we kept him a season and then sold for £20m ish when he's only got a year left on his contract, same as Wanyama's situation?? Get rid now.

I accept all of that. But I've said before that I won't make do with mediocre anymore. I've had almost my entire Saints supporting life with mediocre, where the club have been content to plod along. If they want to get back into that framework then it's probably about time I went and did something else.

4 words though: Jamie Vardy Leicester City.

Mane has a short shelf life, he wouldn't have sulked for a whole season. That could drastically reduced his chances of signing for a "bigger" club. From what I've been told, he isn't a troublesome lad, actually pretty quiet as a whole. People confuse noisy agents with noisy players, sometimes.

If he was kept, continued to play as he did, then perhaps his goals (as they did this last season) see us finish in a higher position, therefore winning the club prize money, or a cup, to negate what we'd earn now from his transfer.

All pissing in the wind, as Saints have taken the easy route, grabbed the money.

I doubt we will reinvest it all in new signings.

£34.5 million upfront, rising to £38.5 million with add on's. Gets more hilarious by the hour. <laugh>
