Some conservative MP's have been receiving some stick recently for calling for a debate about reintroducing the death penalty. Personally, i can't see whats wrong with it. It has far more pro's than con's. Here are a few pros:

Clears up prison overcrowding, meaning new prisons don't have to be built, which helps the economy
Deters others from commiting the same offences
Gets rid of those who are likely to reoffend

What do you lot feel about the death penalty? Would britain be improved if we were to reintroduce it? Or is it morally wrong for the state to punish somebody for murder, by killing them?

Dunno, i'm just completely against it, whilst what the person would be up for would be incredibly bad, surely it is not right to inflict such pain against them? 2 wrongs don't make a right and what not...(BEWARE BIGOTS GOING RELIGOUS FOR A SEC) God always says revenge is not the key, look at jesus for example <whistle>

A quick look on the governments epetition site shows the petition against the death penalty has more signatures. The pro lobby have half a dozen petions calling for re-introduction while the antis have just the one.Of course the petitions are advisory and its the business committee in parliament who decide if its debated in parliament no matter how many people sign it.Even then a majority of mps are still against if it goes to a vote which is unlikely and even if the impossible should happen and re-introduction is carried the EU wouldnt allow it.:police:

I hate the EU sometimes. I wish they'd stop interfering in our affairs.

    Damn right we should.

With DNA technology there is little error now. Of course you'll have to give them a 'stay of execution' whilst all the 'human policing' is verified to be accurate. Other than that I say fry the murdering bastards. Or lethal injection... not bothered really, as long as they no longer burden the tax-payer forever and have the life of ****ing riley at our expense.

If we got even 1 case out of 100 wrong, that would still be enough for me to say it should not be re-introduced.

It's bad enough to take an innocent life, even worse for the judicial system to do it when the evidence comes out to prove it was incorrect.

You submit a question and poll then only list (in your opinion) the pros of the death penalty. You should have done the cons as well.

Anyway, as Shameless says, this topic has been done to death.

I notice Yonner voted yes. That's alright for him. He's too young to face the death penalty!

It'd never happen now in a million years anyway.

What does need to happen though is tougher sentencing across the board!

Because quite frankly in this country it's a ****ing joke!

Where DNA/evidence such as CCTV is conculsive then yes especially for child killers. Maybe even the possibility of a death sentence would help stop the knife crime for a start

That's right blame the tories, nothing to do with the online petition getting in excess of 100,000 names meaning that the subject has to be debated.

I think it would depend on for what crimes would it be applied and there would have to be unequivocal evidence for it to apply such as a number types of dna evidence tying them to the crime.. so the police cant stitch anyone up.

People who i believe it should apply to would be mass murderers, child killers.

Death penalty is too far but removing the cock and balls of paedos and other sex offenders would work. No anaesthetic and a butter knife to do the cutting.

Maybe brand a big cock on their forehead and let them out in the streets as well. No jail time for these guys, let them live with the shame of their offence there for all to see and let them fend for themselves when vigilantes come a-knocking..
