Bet he never thought in a million years he'd be in line to start that game... fair play to the lad had a good game today, technically got himself an assist too.
Thought we played really well today, dropped off a bit after Targett went off,but otherwise dominant. Thought Austin was a leader today, always trying to organise, and leading by example, Romeu the same. And was good to meet people!
I went from very worried, to very reassured in a matter of minutes.....credit to the lad. Now seize the chance.
Agree with pretty much everything said in this thread! Very good second half, Sam McQueen looked liked he'd been playing there for years. Very impressed with him.
Agree about seize the chance but as others have said it was sort of an ideal game to come in. The Etihad next week will be a whole different kettle of fish. Espescially if he plays 90 minutes in Milan too.
Just home after after a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon meeting friends, chatting with nice Burnley supporters and watching a really good Saints win. Austin & Redmond superb as was Romeu + Heaton for Burnley. Onwards to Milan and Manchester !
On another note I heard the commentator say earlier that we've only conceded 2 goals from open play all season. Bloody impressive if true. The 2 must be Capoue & Ibras first, so the first two games....
Very good win...thought Clasie was really good today and has been putting in quietly assured performances this season. Full backs got further forward second half and that helped make the difference. Nice debut for McQueen. Playing this game probably worked out best for him and the team as he could play to his strengths as a former winger. Surprised to read people thought Burnley should have had a pen first half. Thought the player just ran into the saints defenders
Asked my mate who likes a stat about penalties conceded and he said a 1/3 of our league goals against have been penalties
Just back. Great game, great result. Hey, we're at the San Siro next. OMFG, we are at the SAN SIRO NEXT!!!! 39 years a Saints fan and we are going to the San Siro. Can't believe I typed that. I get goose bumps thinking about it Heaton did a worldy save from Charlie at the beginning - had that gone in the flood gates surely would have opened. McQueen great, Oriel awesome, VVD incredible. This diamond isn't too bad after all By the way. Incase you do not know, the next game is in Italy in Milan against Inter Milan
He's on the second shortest contract (20 months) we have left, I think (Martina shortest at about ten months). Les, get cracking! Vin
I thought Tadic would be the next player to move into "big club interest danger zone" alongside Virgil and Fraser. Or maybe Bertrand. But actually Romeu might beat them both. Leaving aside the first fortnight, wow he has been good this season. Burnley were as I expected. Below average, and a pushover once you score against them. But we still played very well. Yet again another host of chances of missed, but at least this time we can mainly look at the opposition keeper rather than at ourselves. For me, only Tadic should be kicking himself for not doing better. Worldie performance from Heaton, otherwise this could have been another eight. Soft penalty for Burnley, but I'll take it in exchange for Virgil not conceding a stone-waller in the first half. Burnley going 1-0 up could have completely changed that game. (Not that I realised this at the game. It's only after seeing the highlights just a moment ago, that I was able to form a view on both incidents).
Watching the replay now, as I missed the match http://www.footballorgin.com/epl-southampton-vs-burnley-full-match-replay/
I said we will finish top of the Prem's second division, 8th, just ahead of Everton and I will be delighted with that (especially with a cup run or two!).
Oriol was unreal. It shows just how good he was the Davis and Clasie are barely getting mentioned. They were both phenomenal as well. The work rate from all three was incredible. We are going massively under the radar in the media, but I think we are better than we were last season. Long may it continue.
