    There's a serious point to be made here as well on this wonderfully un-PC thread - sorry, AllHell but somebody's got to do it.

    With so many girls and young women destroying their lives by falling prey to eating disorders and becoming fixated on attaining the body shape of a pipe cleaner displayed by so many catwalk models, isn't it good to see this display of positive, healthy female role models?

    The shot of Pendleton on her bike is one of the most startling pictures of an athlete I've see in many years - the power that photograph exudes hits you like a wave.

    Hopefully, some young women teetering on the edge of anorexia will be watching these Olympics and decide there's a better way to look and a better way to live.
