First half HOUR was class. We didn't quite make it an entire half of decent football! Thing is whilst the goal should have stood, Gayle missed a fcking sitter beforehand - that header was gash.

Can't quite work out why the finishing is bad, or why confidence is low. We should be strutting around games like peacocks; 6 months ago we were in the second tier, as the whistle blew we were top ten and doing well. Atsu seems to have the right mentality - he gets things wrong constantly, but he keeps going, he keeps believing in himself. The likes of Joselu, Perez, Diame - they can;t seem to handle the pressure, the adulation that can come from being a decent player. It's weird. They're like the kids at school who'd rather be the best player in the second XI than a decent option for the first team. This mental fragility is killing us, lack of good decisions, their worrisome approach to games. At NUFC, the Toon don't really care if you get it right every time, just that you try. The problem we have is these fairies are stifled by fear.
Its just not a team of finishers. I know I've got a weird obsession with him, but in a 442 involving someone like Chris Wood, I could guarantee a finish on atleast one of these chances. Honestly this crowd should spur you on to score, not scare you from doing it. Christ even Cisse managed ok!
I would never think 442 a joke formation but, with the talent available to us, it is.

From watching the highlights this morning we should have been hammered. I know it's about survival this season but **** me some of that play and defensive positioning was ****ing woeful.

Some players need to give themselves a shake!

its a nufc thing ..seem to be going along nice then injury ( always fooks things ) sure there is a jinx round st james park

Just seen the highlights this morning. Seems we were lucky to only concede the one goal.
What happened to the defensive shape, the tireless work rate.
Lascelles was clearly struggling towards half time, but Manquillo was weak as lettuce, Shelvey did a lot of pointing to where he wanted others to be, whilst jogging along like he had all day.
It was really poor.
Well Rafa has a break and the majority of the squad not away on International duty or crocked and hopefully time to recover. Boy do they need a wake up call.
They need to get their collective heads up and out of their arses well before ManU.

Highlights only show you so much and what they want you to see
I noticed they didn't show a side view of Defoe being offside when he received the ball near the end that went for a corner from his shot which resulted in their goal
Lascelles was injured by a sliding tackle from a Bournemouth player but he carried on until being caught again by the same player in the second half
we concentrate on what they done in the second half but we peppered their goal in the first, and had the goal been allowed to stand as it should of, then who knows, the floodgates could of opened - it's no coincidence that the man of the match was the Bournemouth keeper

As with the game against Crystal Palace it seems we get lumbered with poor officials where more experienced officials stand on the sidelines as 4th official Martin Atkinson followed on from Mike Deans 4th official role against Palace
I would love to know how the PGMOL organise these ref's
but with Mike Riley in charge, nothing looks straight forward
Paul Tierney is a second rate ref who at best is championship quality the fact that he has reffed as many league 1 games as premier games this season backs this up along with 4 championship games
I don't see Martin Atkinson or Mike Dean refereeing in League 1

It's getting a bit scripted now, we're a 45 minute team. Second half we lose goals and games.

40 points is our aim, and we'll struggle towards it.

So are all you mike bassetts ready to realise 442 doesn't change a ****ing thing if you have a crap team? Don't kid yourself, Mitro wouldn't have magically made this better. Without that 5 man midfield, as soon as they put pressure on us we couldnt solve it. No pressure on their defence either! Shelvey makes my ****ing blood boil, pathetic Gerrard wannabe that can't actually keep hold of a ball or make a telling pass. Atsu spent the second half thinking he was Ronaldo, poor Clarke can't be fit yet, at least Gayle looked like he was trying, Elliot stooped us losing 3-0.
Holy ****, anyone who wants to question Benitez after this can go **** themselves; you asked for more attack, you got more attack, we lost 1-0 to a team who is literally ****e!

Reactions: Judge Death
We're not very good. We probably won't go down. We shouldn't lose at home against Bournemouth. We don't have a striker who will score more then 15 goals a season. We will get battered, home and away by most of the teams in the top 5.

Nothing is based on fact, my opinions only

Luckily there are quite a few teams in the Premier League who aren't very good.

Thought we actually played pretty well in first half and dominated but wasted a lot of chances. Second half we seemed to lose our shape completely. Didn't notice if they changed their shape to cause this as we didn't but Shelvey suddenly seemed isolated, and slow tracking back and Hayden was ineffective. Thought the substitutions contributed to the downturn as well. Perez didn't do much (although blaming him for the goal is a bit much - the guy got a superb run on the ball and not many would have defended that). Murphy looked completely out of sorts and on several occasions led to them coming straight back at us when we should have retained possession. Didn't seem to be anybody there capable of just realising we were under the cosh and trying to play a few minutes of possession football to take the pressure off.
Guess that's one of the disadvantages of being 0-0 at home, crowd aren't going too be too happy if you sit back and play it around but that was what was needed yesterday in the 2nd half.

Tbh the disallowed goal changed the game. Burn the officials with Napalm!

Shocker of a second half mind.

Nonsense to be honest mate. That first half is the best and most threatening we've looked for a while. Indeed for the 1st hour we looked a real threat. However we didn't take our chances. Which is the same whether you play 442, 433, 451 or otherwise. We didn't lose because we played 442, we lost because we didn't take our chances and allowed them to grow into the game. We gave them their belief. The last half an hour they were much the better side.

When we see Mitrovic up top with Gayle, that is when you can judge that partnership. I don't think its worth judging whether Mitrovic/Gayle with work after watching Joselu/Gayle. That's like saying "well Joselu was ****e again, so er, so is Mitrovic".

I'm not convinced Mitrovic will cure all personally. I think we have deeper problems than just the attack. However I do think he'll do better than Joselu which is all that matters really in that selection conundrum. I'd be surprised if anyone thought Mitrovic was some sort of Shearer!

Bit like the 442 we played with Perez and Mitrovic in the past, scored **** all but had some nice link-up play. Like I said, if we'd scored in the first half the formation would be no issue, but what is the point of having two strikers up top when you spend all second half getting pummelled?
The formation isn't the reason we didn't take our chances, the fact we have a **** strike force is why we didn't take our chances. If you have a **** strike force why play 2 up top?
To say a formation has no bearing on a match is nonsense good sir!
With Mitro I don't see it, don't have reason to see it, he hasn't actually shown me anything consistently in a Newcastle shirt that suggests he will make it particularly better.
Like you say he's no Shearer and I haven't seen anything that makes me think he'd have finished the chances we had. Its becoming quickly forgotten how frustrated we were with him missing chance after chance in the past. The more time he's away from the team, the more the memories change.

Heard the crowd got on Murphy's back. Shame really, the lads clearly low on confidence and is feeling the pressure of being the costliest buy this summer.

Murphy wasn't on the pitch long enough for anyone to get on his back as such
there were a few moans and groans when he twice tried to get past a player by knocking the ball past him
but only succeeding in hitting the player with the ball and running past it
