Back on topic, any news of the council's statement today? I expect it'll be more lies in an attempt to make the Allam's look silly, but I'd still like to see it.

The council have made a ridiculous decision but they've completed masked it partly by hiding it under the BAE story and also by twisting everything that has been said and even just plain lying. The HDM and local news seem completely fooled by the council and have reported it as a case of the council saving us from a dodgy foreigner who wants to move it to Egypt.

The one man who has read the situation correctly and not just bought everything the councillors have said is your mate Mr Burns. He put it much better than I could have on air before the Cardiff game. I hope a lot of people heard that and understand the situation better because it strikers me how many people have been fooled by this.

    Was excellent statement by Burnsy.
His opinion was that the only sensible way forward was the Allem's way.
Walton Street and the surrounding area will remain a wasteland under this council.

It's not really a statement, as Mussie says, it's a re-hash of his interview on Blunderside.......

CITY councillor Terry Geraghty has hit back at Hull City owner Assem Allam over the ownership of the KC Stadium.

Mr Allam and his son Ehab criticised Hull City Council and the portfolio holder for leisure after being told the council was not prepared to sell the stadium to them at a meeting earlier this week.

lor Geraghty said he was "astonished" at the comments made by Mr Allam and his son following the meeting.

He said: "It was an amicable, laid-back meeting which lasted three hours.

"At the end of it, we all shook hands, agreed to continue working together on a few ideas and Mr Allam even invited me to visit his factory.

"The next thing I know, he's calling me dishonest and criticising the council for not agreeing to what he wants.

"I have got no axe to grind with him and he can call me what he likes because I have always told the truth.

"I have no reason to lie about anything – I'm too long in the tooth for that sort of thing."

Mr Geraghty said Mr Allam wanted the council to give him the freehold of the stadium.

"That was something we were not prepared to do for a number of very good reasons," he said.

"The main one was that he could not give any guarantees on the stadium's future.

"It was built and opened without any debt, but his proposal was to borrow against the freehold and that would create a debt.

"Anything with a debt carries a risk and, as a council, we are not prepared to have a situation like that.

"No one wants a repeat of what happened at Boothferry Park when the club got locked out of the ground because of financial problems."

Mr Geraghty said the businessman's proposals for developing a sports village complex on nearby Walton Street were vague and unclear.

He said:"He said he would raise £120 million by borrowing on the stadium and getting £25 million from the Sports Council.

"I know for a fact the Sports Council hasn't got that sort of money to hand out.

"When we said there was a perfectly good ice arena already in the city and Albert Avenue baths just around the corner, he said the ice arena and the swimming pool they had been talking about could be dropped.

"He wasn't even prepared to show us his plans. He said they had cost him £3,000 and they belonged to him.

"You can't really work in partnership with someone if they are not prepared to share basic information like that.

"We've had nothing in writing from him at all, no offer to buy the stadium or anything like that."

Councillor Geraghty said they had offered to work with the Hull City owners to relocate training pitches at Cottingham and Ideal Standard to land next to the KC Stadium

"He seemed happy about that," said the councillor.

"We also offered to help locate a squash centre as part of that development, but then he got talking about shops and boutiques. Now, he's even talking about having a supermarket on the site.

"Either he wants a sports village or a shopping centre.

"He has his own style and his own way of going about things, but I think he wants his own way and nothing else.

"I certainly don't think he understands the workings of local government."

Mr Geraghty said he was committed to sport in the city but claimed Mr Allam and his son appeared unaware of other existing facilities in the city.

"We suggested Costello as a place to put the football training pitches and they said it was too small, which is just nonsense.

"I mentioned we have got 23 different big sporting events lined up in Hull next year and they did not seem to know anything about them.

"All they were interested in was getting the stadium freehold. They kept coming back to it time and time again."

Some think Geraghty is knob, some think Allam is trying to pull a fast one, but I'd suggest AP is the one person that we all(expect Percy) trust.

From his programme notes on Saturday :

"we really all need to find a way to make this sporting legacy happen as soon as possible. It would be great to have the KC finally buzzing with a cross section of sports being played here and leisure facilities being constantly used by a diverse section of the Hull population. The stadium was always supposed to be the catalyst of business amd leisure regeneration in West Hull and the proposal would finally see this dream come to fruition. Freehold is required by the Allam family to ensure they can adequately finance the £120m scheme. I'm sure this would come with security of tenure for both Hull City and Hull FC for many years to come, which should avoid any future doubts as to where the two clubs will play going forward. We really all need to work together to make this dream happen here at the circle."

Agreed. Geraghty's statement sounds very one-sided to me. I don't think he has been open minded about this project from the start and it's obvious he has his own agenda.
Like you I think I'll wait to see what AP says because the Allams seem a bit too emotional at the moment to convey the situation clearly.

has David Burns BA (Hons) originated that argument? i think not. the Hull Daily Mail will always reflect what the council want them to print. Its a 'Trinity' thing. And as for the Hull Daily Mail campaign to 'save' BAE? How dare they simply and cynically try to sell more copies on the back of the impending misery for 900 workers. The Mail will be a thrice weekly paper soon anyway. Why can t the local people buy a decent paper in the YP and let the HDM die its natural death

John was saying that Burnsy made en excellent statement, which I totally agreed with. What does that have to do with the HDM, other than that you don't like either?

The only thing about the YP is its a wessie paper by and large, printed in L**ds with the occasional article about City, Hull or East Yorkshire.

For that reason I wouldn't buy it - its also the sister paper of Leeds' equivalent to the HDM , the Evening Post - when I lived in L**ds that rag made the HDM look good.

At the end of the day Mr Geraghty and his council members do not have any personal consequences whether they yes or know as they are handling in effect other peoples money. At least the Allams have put their own money where their mouth is.

    Why?

EDIT: Just seen this is a 5 year old thread. Question is still pertinent though. Why would you write to him? You live in Nottingham. It's **** all to do with you.

This thread is priceless. Glad I didn't read it before embarking on the CTWD venture!

David Burns called it badly wrong. There's a lesson there for sure.

I'm sure Assem at one point actually admitted that all his tetchy 'Hull Tigers' twatishness was down to the fans not supporting him in his battle to win the stadium from the council. Think if we show him this thread he'll admit he was wrong, reverse everything and give transfer funds of £100m over the next fortnight?
