    Club Update On Coronavirus: Memberships

As the worldwide spread of Coronavirus continues to offer unprecedented challenges, we would like to thank our fans for their continued support at this difficult and uncertain time.

With all professional football in this country postponed until no earlier than April 30th, we have understandably had many enquiries from our Members regarding the current situation with their Memberships and monthly payments.

Following the most recent statement from the football authorities, which highlighted the desire to resume and complete the 2019/20 season as soon as it is safe and possible to do so, we hope that our remaining home games against Charlton Athletic, Middlesbrough, Millwall and Luton Town will be rescheduled and completed. The EFL and The FA are making contingency plans to make this possible, with the Club awaiting further updates. As a result, monthly membership payments will continue to be taken as normal at this time.

Should the situation change and fixtures are not able to be played, we will look at ways of delivering suitable compensation to our Members.

In the meantime, please look after each other and continue to follow guidance from the Government provided by Public Health England: https://www.gov.uk/government/topical-events/coronavirus-covid-19-uk-government-response

Thank you again for your continued support at this time.

What a surprise! I wonder what happens if the games get played behind closed doors, which is highly likely

I believe all League clubs are looking at giving all pass-holders access to their TV channels, so they can still watch the games live.

I guess they would also allow others in the UK to buy access to their TV channel, which at the moment is only available to overseas subscribers?

With the latest restrictions from last night, the squad will only be able to train at home. Or at best 1:1 with a trainer if they happen to live with one. No team/squad training.

The lack of match fitness and sharpness will introduce an interesting twist to matches when they resume. And I have to assume at some point they will resume, even if its autumn.

They surely have to go completely null and void, too much can often happen in the last 10 games of a season. Leicester to avoid relegation anyone ?

Earlier today I was speaking with a Liverpool fan (from Liverpool) and he believes that season should be voided.

He says if it isn't, and they win it as surely they will, it'll just feel completely wrong now, worthless, tasteless etc.

    FA Statement...

We have been working collaboratively with the National League System (NLS), the women’s football pyramid and the wider grassroots game since the outbreak of COVID-19 on how to conclude the 2019-20 season in the most appropriate way possible.

These are challenging circumstances for English football and all decisions taken are in the best interests of the game and in consultation across key stakeholders. Our primary concern will always be for the safety and welfare of clubs, players, staff, officials, volunteers and supporters during this unprecedented time.

Today’s steps take into account the financial impact during this uncertain period, whilst considering the fairest method on how the sporting outcomes for the season will be decided with the integrity of the leagues in mind.

    National League System

The NLS and the women’s football pyramid were able to build a consensus amongst their leagues and, where possible, aimed to create a consistent approach across all leagues, whilst taking into account the unique characteristics of each individual league.

As a result, The FA and NLS steps three to six have reached a consensus that their 2019-20 season will now be brought to an end, and all results will be expunged. This will mean no promotion or relegation of clubs between NLS steps three to six, and no promotion to NLS step two.

These decisions will also apply to the leagues and clubs who play at NLS step seven.

We will continue to assist and support the National League (NLS steps one and two) to determine the outcome of its 2019-20 season as quickly as possible. The planned implementation of the restructure of the NLS will also now be deferred until the start of the 2021-22 season.

Furthermore, we can now confirm that we have decided that all grassroots football is concluded for the 2019-20 season. This will allow the game to move forward and to commence planning for next season. Our County Football Associations (CFAs) will be supporting grassroots leagues over the coming days to determine how they should close out their current competitions.

Where appropriate, the above decisions will be put to The FA Council for ratification.

Throughout this period we continue to seek guidance in respect of the government’s financial support packages relative to COVID-19 and how they are applicable to clubs in the NLS, the women’s football pyramid and the wider grassroots game.

    Women's football

The FA, FA Women’s Board members and the Women’s Football Conference have consulted and reached a consensus regarding the women’s football pyramid.

The FA and the leagues within tiers three to seven have reached a consensus to bring the season to an immediate end and all results will be expunged. This will mean no promotion or relegation of clubs between tiers three to seven. Agreement has also been reached to end the Regional Talent Clubs season, which was due to conclude in April 2020.

We remain in consultation with the Barclays FA Women’s Super League and FA Women’s Championship Board and clubs regarding the most appropriate way to complete the current season, including for the Barclays FA Women’s Super League Academy.

    FA competitions

With the 2019-20 Emirates FA Cup, Women’s FA Cup, Buildbase FA Trophy and Buildbase FA Vase all at advanced stages, we are reviewing all options as we seek to complete these competitions whenever it is safe and appropriate to do so. Clubs involved are close to reaching a major final and for those clubs and supporters we will do all we can to keep the Wembley dream alive.

In respect of The FA Youth Cup, The FA County Youth Cup, The FA Sunday Cup and The FA Inter-League Cup, we are also seeking to complete these competitions if it is feasible to do so.

We will also continue planning for FA competitions to take place for the 2020-21 season.

The more I think about this the more I think the season should simply be voided.

Or like me did you just give up thinking of a way it could be finished? Two games a week in August. Three days off in September and the new season starts? Scrap European competition? Bin all domestic cups? Any mathematical model of calculating the outcomes will have the lawyers on speed dial. As mentioned above, Leicester. Yes, a real bummer for Leeds, but voiding does seem the only way. (snigger)

I just felt that any way of completing it would have left teams feeling short-changed in one way or another. Relegated teams will have lots of excuses to fall back on, players not match-fit, lost players who were out of contract, playing behind closed doors, etc. A promotion could always be devalued because it was achieved in abnormal circumstances, wouldn't have got it otherwise, etc. I think everybody would come out of it feeling dissatisfied in one way or another. Abandoning the season at least leaves everyone pissed off for the same reason!
Obviously I don't know what the financial impact of this would be, it might make it an absolute non-starter.

The Premier League, EFL and PFA met today and discussed the growing seriousness of the COVID-19 pandemic.

It was stressed that the thoughts of all three organisations continue to be with everyone affected by the virus.

The Premier League, EFL and PFA agreed that difficult decisions will have to be taken in order to mitigate the economic impact of the current suspension of professional football in England and agreed to work together to arrive at shared solutions.

The leagues will not recommence until 30 April at the earliest. They will only do so when it is safe and conditions allow.

Further meetings will take place next week with a view to formulating a joint plan to deal with the difficult circumstances facing the leagues, their Clubs, players, staff and fans.

If they don't complete the season, one possibility is that the positions teams hold now is their finishing position. It's a good job they stopped the league before the Charlton game. May have saved us dropping into the bottom 3.

I think the non league and grassroots decision will ultimately be the decision faced by professional clubs.

I simply can’t see them finishing the current season. Leeds stay down and we stay up. I can only see positives.
