Moderation Announcement

Oddy is having a break from moderating, during which time I will be performing any necessary moderation of the forum

As you will recall, I closed the Politics and Covid threads because they had degenerated to an unacceptable level. However this only moved the problems to the Discuss Anything Else Thread

Recently, Oddy introduced some new rules to clean up the thread using a 3 strikes warning process

With immediate effect I am now introducing a slightly modified rule which will not allow abusive comments at all. This simple change is as follows

Any abusive comments on any thread will result in the post being deleted and an immediate thread ban of 1 week. A repeat offence will result in the post being deleted and an immediate thread ban of 1 month. One further offence will result in the post being deleted and will result in a thread ban for an indeterminate period, depending on the severity of the offence

This action is for the benefit of all forum members and to ensure that prospective new members are not deterred from joining

I’m sure we can all express our views, however varied, without resorting to abusive language towards each other and I therefore hope I do not find it necessary to enforce this ruling

Derisive comments will be treated similarly. In some cases it may be difficult to interpret comments/actions as derisory as some posters have a relationship where friendly banter is acceptable. I will have to rely on complaints to determine whether a comment/action is derisory and if necessary deal via PM initially
