Match Day Thread Southampton v Newcastle Arabia FC, 06/11/22, 2pm, Sky Sports

NUFC were better in every dept even the minor stuff like time wasting, berating the ref, being nice to the ref, gaining yards on every free kick. I won’t mention the football stuff like professionalism, aggression, skill, taking chances, etc. But yes they have a much better team AND manager.

 

Missed the post match comments on Sky but thought I heard Souness say something like “Players like him get managers sacked”. Anyone catch who he was talking about? Or was it all of them?

 

Shame it's ended this way but he's done a decent job (excluding the last 12 months or so) and definitely put his all into the club. It always felt that not being able sort the defence would be his downfall and so it's proved with us on track to continue the 60+ goals conceded a season. Given the transfer failings of the summer we can't really afford that this season albeit that's not really his fault.

Good luck to him with whatever he does and hope he enjoys what's obviously a much needed rest.

 

Had to happen. Gives me no pleasure, but nor has the football for a while! Wish him well. Look forward to some good times hopefully.

I get this but can you actually point to any reason not to start them given the results weve had and the obvious shortcomings?

 

New manager, fresh start. After a WC I'm not that interested in I'll look forward to seeing what a new voice can get out of this squad. Ralph gave his all and I'll never be happy to see him gone but I actually think he will be better off. I can't think of another manager that looks so angry and stressed on the touchline all the time.

All we really need is a lift, a boost to the confidence that turns chances into goals. And I think we have to be brave with the team. If we signed 18 year old strikers we need to play 18 year strikers etc.
