The problem with the site is the access from Northgate. Millhouse Woods Lane is essentially a single track road with residents parking on one side.
Can someone alert Acun to the Lawns site in Cottingham. He might not be aware that it is currently up for sale.
It's a 'Designated Local Wildlife Site' https://downloads.eastriding.org.uk...ted Policies Map (July 2016) - Cottingham.pdf Though I couldn't find what specific wildlife it's protecting.
Is it realistically big enough for what we need/want to do? Just had a quick look on Google maps and not sure it is, plus to much would need demolishing. West hull villages is where we should be looking imo as it opens up the rest of Yorkshire etc for academy players
I can only imagine its more expensive to acquire that site and do the necessary work. There's only one very small road leading into the lawns as it is currently. You could argue it would need more work than Walton St
Acun has said that he wants everything at the stadium, he said that from day 1. Why is everyone trying to find a resolution away from the stadium? IMHO I think that if the council don't let him then he'll do the same as the Allams and threaten to move, to a site that will be big enough to fit everything he wants there, but he'll have the balls to do it with his billionaire friends backing him.
Acun has said or done a fair few things in the early days that ended up backfiring. As plenty have said, the area around the ground is quite limiting.
Syd Smith School as I’ve said huge fields First Lane great access both ends , loads of expansion space , even a private hospital and clinic a few hundred yards away . But set the kids footie teams up too that are already there .
A lot of those fields around it are now taken up as flood alleviation, basically big sumps ready to take flood water, so those parts are definitely out.
Not it will be viable now with it being a flood plain. The best site I can think of anywhere around here is the current Hull Ionians site, Brantingham Park. It's not big enough as is, but farm land on one side of it could be used to extend ( it's been used for first team training before, many years ago, not that that makes any difference ). It's easy accessable, planning would be easier ( you'd like to think ). Imo it just fits with everything we need and from what I know, theirs appetite to sell from some involved. There is also plenty of other parcels of land around that area that could also be looked at imo. But I'd say Brantingham Parks would be my pick
The road into the Lawns is exactly that, the access road. The approach road is Harland Way and Northgate. 300 static caravans and lodges turn up every September for the trade show so the roads can handle the traffic. Once in the site there's a huge carpark where buses pick up and drop off. Far better access than Walton Street and straight onto the A164 Humber Bridge to Beverley Road.
It sounds like Acun is set on extending the current site, which does make sense for a lot of reasons, ie we actually have a stadium there, breathing life into Anlaby Rd, near to Gemmels for my pre/post match drink, etc. Also I have no idea what stage it is at, but there are ambitious developments outlined for around the hospital, including a train stations, etc. Through economies of scale, it would make sense for both parties to merge these developments? The only thing probably preventing this would be the strip of land in between which the greater crested newts own. I am fairly sure that strip of land would solve the issues around the lack of space for Acun’s development. Surely someone can sit down with said newts and renegotiate, with an offer of relocation? They could demand a high price. I am sure it was considered when the stadium was first build, but surely there’s a way? Such a merged project presents a possibly never to be repeated opportunity to redevelop the whole west side of the city centre upto Walton St. Any land left between the hospitals and the city centre (particularly along Anlaby Rd) would become very attractive to private developers. Surely merging these two projects would be a part of the ongoing discussions?
