“Net Zero”: The political lie for a generation

I am sure that some can remember the last Labour government. Social democrat Tony Blair moved them onto the centre ground and ‘New Labour’ took office in a landslide in 1997.

In that government there was a minister called David Miliband and he drew up what was to become the Climate Change Act 2008. He moved to another post before it was enacted and brother Ed took over.

As with all government bills it started life as a draft version in the Lords in 2007. In the original draft put forward by minister Phil Woolas the very first statement of the bill PART 1 CARBON TARGET AND BUDGETING Section 1 The target for 2050 Clause (1) it read “It is the duty of the Secretary of State to ensure that the net UK carbon account for the year 2050 is at least 60% lower than the 1990 baseline.”

On 9th July 2008, an Amendment to the Bill was put forward by two Liberal Democrat MPs on the Climate Change Committee reviewing the bill. Steve Webb and Martin Horwood proposed the following two changes:

Page 1, line 6 [Clause 1], leave out ‘60%’ and insert ‘80%’.
Page 3, line 29 [Clause 5], leave out ‘26%’ and insert ‘35%’.​

The second of those changes reduces the annual carbon budget compared to 1990 levels. That was changed to ‘34%’ by The Climate Change Act 2008 (2020 Target, Credit Limit and Definitions) Order 2009 on 20th May 2009.

So when the Bill received Royal Ascent on 26th November 2008, the first clause read:
“It is the duty of the Secretary of State to ensure that the net UK carbon account for the year 2050 is at least 80% lower than the 1990 baseline.”

None of our politicians can claim not to have been involved in this ridiculous targeting because in Section 2 Amendment of 2050 target or baseline year Clause (1) reads “The Secretary of State may by order –” Sub-Clause (a) reads “amend the percentage specified in section 1(1);”

So in the last days of the Theresa May Conservative government on 26th June 2019, an Order was issued by minister Chris Skidmore (with no debate or vote in The House of Commons and just a vote in The House of Lords): The Climate Change Act 2008 (2050 Target Amendment) Order 2019 with this change:

In subsection (1), for “80%” substitute “100%”.​

Since 2019 the first clause now reads:
“It is the duty of the Secretary of State to ensure that the net UK carbon account for the year 2050 is at least 100% lower than the 1990 baseline.”

This means that politicians of all the three major parties represented in Parliament have been complicit in producing an Act that is totally unachievable. Virtue signalling that will see the whole country breaking the law come 2050.

Any politician that mentions “Net Zero” is an absolute lair. Only the mentally ill are championing this Mission Impossible and Tom Cruise cannot save the day here.

Green energy is not cheaper than those evil fossil fuels as it comes with colossal infrastructure and maintenance costs; wind turbines do not work when the wind is not blowing and solar panels do not work when the sun is not shining. There is currently no viable large scale electricity storage so fossil fuels are going nowhere. A wind turbine costs £2-3 million to manufacture and around £40k a year to maintain and has a lifetime of around 20 years. That is where all the green levies that Ed Miliband put on energy bills have been going.

The exponents of green energy seem to be quite happy to ignore the environmental damage done in the name of renewables. Many of the rare earth minerals used for solar panels and wind turbines come from massive mining of huge amounts of ore to extract small usable amounts. And much of this mining takes place in countries that we do not always look favourably on such as China and Russia.

Climate change isn't scary enough it's a climate crisis now designed to frighten low IQ simpletons into agreeing to have governments & mayor's extort even more money from them & giving up more freedoms .

Unfortunately there are enough idiots around that like having a Tyrannical boot on their necks just like the covid **** crisis in exchange for protection against nonexistent existential threats .

We went from a war on terrorism, a war against seasonal flu & now a war against carbon .

All unachievable but a great way to grab individual rights & of course more money handed over to the people above the politicians.

The goal to keep the plebs off the roads , flying abroad , eating meat & criminalising home owners into signing over their homes if they can't afford all the latest heat pumps, smart meters double glazing insulation & trying to heat their homes or cook on unicorn powered boilers & ovens.

Technocratic communism disguised as virtuous hippies .

Simply say Russel Brand, Trump & Farage don't believe in the climate crisis & the lemmings will demand their own subjugation.
