In Southamptons case even teetering on the edge of bankruptcy the club still produced talent [assets!!] through its academy. Markus Liebherr took over the club extended the clubs development ethos further. Today Southampton are looked upon as the benchmark for elite youth development, the club to join even for Bristol kids such is their reputation.
Because they have Category 1 status, Southampton are allowed to "obtain" kids from Bristol (I think they have an outpost in Bath) As we are Category 2 we are restricted to where we can go (there is a geographical limit of 90 minute journey time)
I think is right., but the points are Southampton's history of being a club that develops top level talent stretches back way before the EPPP. It is a long term focus and commitment BCFC have not had and appear still not to.
Give it time and then things could change, we got appointed category 2 a few years back. It shows we are trying to amend from previous times. This will take a lot of time, let's see where we are in 10 years time. I can see on other threads that posters are complaining that we ain't done enough in the transfer window, and should of ripped up half the team that done so well last season. Maybe we might start seeing some of these academy players coming through if people gave them a chance. Rome wasn't built in a day. Just because they've made errors in the past let's give them time to put things right.
