Interesting article on the soaring popularity of football in China. The Chinese Super Leagues (CSL) transfer spending in the latest Winter transfer window was by far the largest of any of the other world's major leagues. The coming year will probably see this accelerate. https://list.juwai.com/news/2016/04/10-reasons-the-beautiful-game-is-primed-for-lift-off-in-china?&utm_source=EmarsysEDM&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=2016 April Newsletter Part 2 (Industry)&utm_content=
I know the Chinese have a different slant on football, but if you look at the list of CSL teams, none have the word 'Tiger', 'Hunter' or indeed any other ferocious carnivorous beast. The nearest they get is Guangzou Evergrande Taobao FC- so clearly they lack the marketing nouse that has made our name so popular out there. Maybe Beijing Lucky Garden FC or Shanghai Ivory FC might be a better bet? I was lucky enough to see City in China and they clearly have almost unlimited enthusiasm over there, but the folks ain't that affluent yet to fleece with membership schemes, so the money must be coming from someone's very deep and ambitious pockets.
The owners of Guangzhou are supposedly in talks to buy Meelan. If they are we've got another PSG / Citeh on the cards.
Thought you couldn't take money out of the country... ie, if you're on £300k a week there you aren't bringing that back with you when you switch leagues/retire. That true?
