First off great idea Tel; for what it's worth I think the idea of supporting a local women's refuge is great - Christmas is about magic through a kids eyes and I guess being somewhere like that at this time of year is way short of magic. That's not to ignore the plight of our brave men and women who serve to keep us safe But there are plenty of activists out there for them already. However, happy to support the majority and will put something in the kitty.
Yeah I think if it's not going to an individual or family then I'd be all for a local charity like this, low key and non-corporate. Thanks MITM
I`ll hoy £20 in mate but I don`t know how to do it. I`ve had a look at the website but I`m none the wiser. My personal preference would be something for the kids. One of them that does treats for the terminally ill bairns. Don`t know whether there`s a local one though. Other than that I don`t really mind as long as it`s not one of them where the directors cream it straight off the top. Proper boils me watter that like.
There should be a hole at the back of your PC pops. Roll up the £20 really tightly, insert it in the hole and push as hard as you can
Same here mate, nowt worse than corporate greed within charities. I donate quite often to Great Ormond Street and I think there's smaller charities established where they buy toys for the kids etc at Xmas so it's not the charity I'd choose, unless there's a specific local one which somebody can point out? I just pressed 'pledge' and followed the steps on screen.
I followed Blunhams instructions. Had a look in the computer and can`t see the money so presumably it`s on its way to wherever. Amazing what this technology can do nowadays.
Great idea lads Here is a local charity who maybe able to help you find a needy kid or two in your area http://hope4kidz.org.uk/how-we-help
A couple of years ago I thought if I won the lottery I would love to help youngans or people who are struggling but when I tried to work it out its almost impossible how do you go about finding them without getting ripped off so i gave up and decided just to keep it.
I've donated my £20 but cannot see my name on the pledges. Was that an optional comment thing? Just want to ensure my cash went thru. Can some clever ****e on here check to see if my name is somewhere on the donation page
I'm confused now Gil. I put in some straightaway on Sunday and it's not showing either. The total pledges, if you add them up, is just £200, but the total is showing £270, so something isn't quite right. Edit: the missus is checking her account on justgiving. At the moment it doesn't look like its gone through even though it appeared to do so on Sunday.
I tried today and did the pledge thing, filled in the little boxes, pressed continue and the internet promptly went down. Probably got a shock at me parting with me dosh It said I would get an email but I haven`t had it yet. I`ll give it a couple of days. If it hasn`t come through by then I`ll have another go.
I followed BFA's link and I thought I had made a comment. on the pledge page. Not bothered about my name being there but just want confirmation the dosh has gone to its intended recipient. I have received an e mail this evening stating the target has reached so I'm hoping my dosh is there.
We seem to be still undecided about a worthy recipient (noting that the consensus is to help an individual, but we can't find one) so here's another, very worthwhile (in my opinion) cause . . . . it even has an appropriate name as far as most on here are concerned. 'Daft as a Brush' . . . . which is a free transport service for cancer patients to and from Freeman's and the R.V.I. (and any other hospital that provides such treatment), from wherever the subject lives. Mrs. A. and I have, unfortunately, had to use this service quite a few times during the last couple of years, as some of you know, and we can't praise it highly enough It is purely funded by donations, and is a far better service than the alternative ambulance provision, because it is operated like a taxi/escort service with the drivers not only picking patients up and dropping them off, but they escort them to appropriate waiting areas and even wait for them for return journeys. Most importantly, it makes the whole experience more bearable than it would otherwise be (it's not much fun either way) I've been reluctant to recommend this as a cause for the people here, because it's been personal to our circumstances, but I've decided to offer it as an option because of the lack of anything definitive so far Please tell me if you consider this to be bollocks . . . . or otherwise
