Saints have revealed their first profit since the takeover of Markus Liebherr in 2009.

    http://dailyecho.co.uk/sport/11886270.Southampton_to_reveal_first_profit_since_administration/

Now a dead link, but the Echo had a piece up earlier - the headline figures...

    PROFIT: £33.4m (after tax) - £6.5m loss in 2012/13

    REVENUE: £106.1m - up by 52.2% from £71.8m in 2012/13

    COMMERCIAL INCOME: £8.3m - up from £6.7m in 2012/13

    MATCHDAY INCOME £7.1m - up from £6.8m in 2012/13

TOTAL WAGE BILL: £55.2m - up from £41.4m in 2012/13

TOTAL STAFF NUMBER: 282 - up from 230 in 2012/13

STAPLEWOOD: Investment to date in excess of £25m - when new plans for the extension are complete, the final figure will be £38m

    LOANS:

Katharina Liebherr provided a loan of £14.7m in the financial year

The club also held a loan facility, secured against her estate for £14.5m.

Katharina Liebherr injected a further loan of £20m into the club during the summer of 2014.

Undoubtedly more to come when the report is released - but that's the headline stuff from what was put up, and now taken down...

I wage bill is tiny compared to nearly all other Prem teams.

I was going to post details but thought twice as it may not be Official from the Club yet?

Presumably there is something significant in the taking down of the original info.

Yeah, the Echo jumped the gun on the embargo, it would seem.

That was how they got into trouble with Nicola.

I'm guessing since they took it down fast that the club won't react in quite the same manner. Silly though, if you're looking to continue rebuilding the relationship and get good access, breaking embargoes does not help.

It's improved in these figures and given all the extra hires in efforts to focus on improving that department it should continue to rise. It'll be relatively slow growth, but you can certainly see the concerted effort in building the club as a brand this year. All the 'Southampton Way' and 'We March On' stuff, the NBC sports doc, the partnership work in the USA, talk of an overseas tour for next pre-season, it's all part of the progression plan in that area.

That was one area that Ralph Krueger highlighted that needed some attention.

    Yep.

This shouldn't come as a surprise; people were talking up financial doom and gloom as the reason for the sales, but with the TV money we're making money hand over fist. And FFP was never, ever going to be a problem...our wage bill is minuscule, because that topline figure includes all the backroom staff (and FFP doesn't).

There's a very good possibility that our profit in '14/'15 will be even higher.

Profit's a dirty word on here. We should boycott every game until Saints' profits have been eroded away.

Lowering the price of tickets for Villa wouldn't do it, it would just create a bigger demand?

I can see that lowering ticket prices for a game could be a good idea but we don't have any real problems with attendance levels and even if we did I wouldn't do it for the last game of the season. You'd need to pick a less glamorous game like Hull at home and market the hell out of it.

Probably a good idea for when/if we have a bigger stadium.

And no need to increase demand as it will sell out anyway.

Very interesting and encouraging...Rogers comes over very well. As he said, how much more proof do we need about Katherina's commitment to the club than that she didn't use money from sales to clear the debt, but handed it over to reinvest and then put 20 million in to cover a hole in our finances. And good that he mentions trying to heal the fracture in our relationship with the local community...this was the major flaw of Nicola.

Guess it's to ward off concerns that Katherina's profit-taking, but playing the "we needed to cover the past decisions made by Cortese" card while simultaneously announcing that the club made a massive profit in his final year (and will make an even larger one in '14/'15) makes for a strange contrast.

However, we are assuming that football obeys classical supply and demand economics - something that everyone seems to accept in modern day society that there are no other models!

People keep saying our wage bill is low, I have no real idea comparatively, does anyone have any facts and figures for rival sides? Thanks.
