A bit long to post in full, but it's worth a read... http://thesefootballtimes.co/2017/05/31/dean-windass-the-playing-supremacy-of-an-everyday-hero/
It was. If a little disturbing in parts. I'm struggling somewhat with the image of Deano as a blonde bombshell firing me into ecstasy tbh.
I really hate that too, but I can't help loving the guy. I can't blame him in his financial situation.
Yep, it's a real shame he has to do this ****, but I think I would do the same. It would keep me awake at night, but you have to survive. For me it's just one more reason to hate the Allams.
Watched him play centre forward in a County League Final for Walkington v Hornsea at the Roy West Ground on Inglemire Lane a couple of weeks back. It was a filthy night, pissing it down all day and night. Less then 100 fans were there and Deano, trotted out and took his place on the field with the rest of the lads, no fan fares, no big announcement. Walkington, coached by Leigh Phalin, started well and had two goals disallowed in the first 10 minutes with Deano instrumental in them both. They then took the lead and deserved the 1-0 lead at half time. Hornsea made a fist of it in the second half but Walkington broke away and scored a late winner. Deano lasted the full 90 minutes and filled in for the last ten as a make shift centre half, using his experience to get his team over the line as Hornsea threw everything at them. At the final whistle he shook hands with the Hornsea lads and walked off the field, leaving his team mates to celebrate. He looked knackered, one lone voice shouted 'Well played Deano' and he replied, 'Thanks mate'. Fabulous player and yeah, a legend.
Cracking final, could've been about 6-5, end to end action, full blooded tackles, no rolling around, and agree Deano had a good game with no Billy big bollox stuff going on.
Brilliant read. I had a photo of him celebrating the Play off final win in my office on my noticeboard ever since that date. I had a spring clean couple of weeks ago just after his pro Allam rant and binned it. I read this and want to go through my photo archives again. I have never seen a photo, but would like the image of him pissed up balancing on the wall of the balcony on Hull City Hall at the parade. He should always be remembered as THE City legend. He has tarnished that by selling his soul. Looking back though, the end of his career was always going to be traumatic, football was his outlet in screwed up teenage years and then that is taken away. How do you then replace the buzz of the adulation he received? He was never going to make it as a manager or a coach. Had a stab as a tv pundit, but with that Hull accent.... Through some bad decisions, he's skint and has very few job prospects. Maybe in his shoes, if we saw a rare career opportunity there, we'd take that.
