I am just going through all my old programmes, cataloguing them so that I can sell them. Do you know the asnwer to this. Wed 10th March 1976 City Youth played Newcastle Youth in FA Youth Cup Quarter Final Two City later played for the first team, Howard Pritchard and Kevin Mabbutt. One Newcastle player appeared for us on loan about seven years later. He was a defender. Can you name him?
I thought it was pretty obscure. Even with comprehensive internet data, where would one find the answer? And amazingly, the info came from one of only two City youth team programmes in my collection. The other is the 1959 semi-final versus Chelsea. We got a complete forward line and Chelsea had Tambling, Venables and several others who made it to their first team.
amazing how the mind misses certain things 1967 v Everton .... I always thought Alan Ball scored a hatrick and it was 4-0...he did not score, but he did something after the game that always sticks in my mind..... CLUE... it involved hands. ...
Wasn't it 0-5 with a young Joe Royle getting some goals. Not a clue about what Bally did with his hands. Stuck two fingers up at us?
YES it was 0-5 Royle got 1 I think AB as the whistle blew came to the open and clapped us , as we had, the open end crowd had been having good banter throughout, and I think he had a hand in 3 or more of the goals as opposed to scoring them. He then went off toward the tunnel clapping the other 3 sides of the ground, it was one of the best matches I have been to!
M Gibson G West T Jacobs T Wright A Briggs S Brown * G Parr H Kendall** G Low B Labone T Bush C Harvey J Derrick J Hurst * C Crowe A Ball H McIlmoyle J Royle* G Sharpe A Young L Peters D Temple (winger ) the 2 teams, remember Trevor and Alex playing out of their skins, which is why their goals were from their defenders except Joe's.. Wed night and 23000
I still have the programme and yes, it was a cracking game. Everton were brilliant and as you stated above, the banter was dished out by City fans during the match but at the end all parts of the ground applauded Everton off the pitch. We were well beaten but not disgraced.
