Stayed in Leicester Square last night and met numerous Wednesday fans .. all very upbeat and complimentary about us .. not one of them failed to wish us well .. when waiting for the tube the chant from them after the game of 'we are championship ' in response to a city chant of 'we are premier league' did make me smile.. credit to them
Wednesday fans kicked off in Peterborough services last night. Police closed it down.m and stopped letting our fans in despite it being out route. Had a Wednesday fan said next to our party. Didn't realise until the 90th minute when he got his phone out and the background was their badge. He quickly ran out when the celebrations began. Didn't cause any trouble, though. Just a shame one of our fans sold that seat to him (it was already booked when I got mine on the Wednesday morning the sales began).
I had a great day. I met quite a few Wednesday fans on the train going back to Ickenham. They were all perfectly behaved and complimentary. The said we deserved to win. They were disappointed but said we were the better team. They were unhappy that their team, the attack in particular, hadn't turned. There were loads of them in the services on the M42. Again, no problems. One of them said, "It's football, isn't it? No point in getting too upset about it." They were worlds away from the scum that came to Boothferry Park in the seventies. One of our idiots was trying to incite them on the way down the ramp, coming out of the stadium. Fat and bare to the waist he was shouting abuse at them and saying that we were going up and they weren't. Strangely, a similar thing happened at Walsall when Peter Taylor's team had won promotion. Thankfully neither event developed.
As I recall after winning promotion we lost the last 3 games. Walsall, Brentford and ?.Went to those games from Essex and it was a little deflating.
On their site they were complaining about how many had turned up wearing old shirts with Sanderson on meaning they had suddenly reappeared after years of absence. I do love to see disharmony amongst the Fowls.
It's funny that. For clubs who used to be successful and are now less so, unlike us, the concept of wearing old shirts is very different. Never thought of that. I guess it's like the Liverpool 'fans' in their Carslberg King Kenny jackets that Stuey used to go on about.
From owls talk. Same happened to be, block 551 was split with the right all standing and the left sitting. Everyone in front of me standing, old woman behind nagging me to sit but those in front wouldn't sit so I had no choice but to stand. I was right on the edge of the standing area which made it even more awkward. Kind of spoiled it as I felt bad for the old lady behind. http://www.owlstalk.co.uk/forums/index.php/topic/241773-standing/
