Larkin was a atwt, appartently hated Hull, this from someone who worked at the Univ. John Alderton actor, Tom Courtney actor..Sir Roy of the North...Smith and Nephew
Mark met with the HCSS a year ago and mentioned them all. There are two apparently (one very criptic). At the start of the film Bruno is seen playing with 2 other boys, one had a different name from the book, which was Leon (reference to Leon Cort). The other (more criptic one) was one of the German guards was called Meinberg. The translation was as close you you could get to My Hill (although Babelfish suggests the translation is My Mountain!)
I never knew Brassed Off was directed by someone from Hull, I like it even more now and I liked it alot before. Whats the City reference in that? Was a shame seeing Pete Postlethwaite die last year, he was particuarly brilliant in it, as he was in pretty much all of the films I've seen him in. The soundtracks great as well.
I was going to mention them but they never really made it plus I think the lead singers a massive cock
Pete Postlethwaite's character was called Danny Ormondroyd, named after former loanee Ian! Also when the bus goes to one of the championships (can't remember which), the bus is covered with Amber & Black balloons Also please don't tell me that nobody ever thought the pigeon in Little Voice had an odd name (Duane), without thinking of Mr Darby!
For some reason I thought he was from Brid! I saw TBISP in the cinema a week after I visited Auschwitz. Harrowing stuff.
Joe longthore is from hull I believe, and didn't Robinson crusoe. Set sail from hull? Captain blighs doomed ship, the bounty is also from hull. Not sure if that counts though!
Amy Johnson- pioneering female pilot. First female to fly solo from England to Australia. There's streets, statues and planes named after her. Others already said: William Wilberforce- helped abolish slavery. Pretty big achievement. Ebeneezer Cobb Morely- formulated the rules of the Football Association Mick Ronson- David Bowie's lead guitarist. The old bloke in Brassed Off and Royle Family is a City fan. Saw an interview with him in the HDM.
I was going to say Robinson Crusoe but I think he was from York and, as you say, sailed from Hull. Plus he's fictional.
