You might also like The Monuments Men. It's also about retrieving art looted by the Germans in WW2 but with a more "Schmalzy Hollywood" perspective. Never the less, I enjoyed it. It's remarkable that there are over 100,000 works of art looted by the Germans that are still missing. I wonder how many are suirreled away by rich black market purchasers in the west or hidden away since the Soviet days and now in Russia.
Watched Hush on Netflix last night, if you like gory with plenty of suspension and a decent storyline it's a good watch, Mrs Amber had a cushion to cover her eyes for some of the bits. On a scale of 1 to 10 I'd give this a 7.5.
Been on a naughty downloading spree so got a few films lined up to watch next week including the Force Awakens, after watching the first 3 really good films and the second 3 really bad films it will be interesting to see this one and how the story continues
Day 115, film 115," dirty grandpa", mrs mop wants to watch a comedy, got a bad feeling this films gonna be ****. Ah well !! so long as she's happy....
"Dirty grandpa", absolute ****e, very few funny moments in It for Me... Not Mr De Niro's finest hour.... From the sublime to the ridiculous !!!!! Oh!! And I'm taking away Mrs mops Remote control rights !!!! For the Foreseeable future !!!!
Watched Mad Max Fury Road again last night... so bloody good. Didn't have this thread at the time it was released, so I give it 9.5/10. Oh, and Purple Rain which I watched the other night was fine. Not fantastic, not horrible, just like I expected it to be since I last saw it. 7/10. Bloody ace soundtrack, of course.
I'm guessing it's an age thing lammie, I've seen lots raving about it and, same as you, I thought it average entertainment.
I don't think it is an age thing, considering it was nominated for 10 and won 6 Oscars, and the Academy is mostly older people.
The six Oscars the film won are certainly to be commended but, winning awards for Film Editing, Production Design, Costume Design & Sound Editing etc brings next to nothing to my personal viewing entertainment ............ each to their own though mate.
It was nominated for Best Picture. That says something about personal viewing entertainment. It may not have won, but it was still considered for it, which says something for an Academy which normally sticks it's nose up at things like action...
It says **** all about mine ....... it was nominated, it was beaten by a FAR better film ....... you liked it, I, and others didn't ............. lets agree to disagree eh?
I'm fine with you not liking it, everyone can absolutely have their own opinion. I think Spotlight and The Revenant are better (I said Revenant was the best film of 2015 on this thread when I reviewed it, and gave Spotlight a glowing review also). I was just querying the "I think it's down to age" idea, which I think is wrong, I think it is just down to individual taste, regardless of age. My granddad bloody loved Mad Max.
I don't know whether it's down to age, the mood I was in, or anything else, but I'm relieved to find there's plenty of others who felt the same... http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1392190/reviews
