They normally get to the ground 1-2hrs prior to ko so much time for a beer or 3. Like you i also drive but have taken advantage of the nice travel fees this season. But yes you will have time for beer.
But dont you think that many soft drinks are now very much "alcohol" based thesedays ? Vodka lucozade orange as an example.
I didn't get back to Filey after the semi final till the following Saturday Went home via the lake district
So being unable to travel from our capital after 8.30 is a sign of being more civilised? I would suggest the late night transport, night life ( everyewhere here would be shut by the time they got out of the ground in Spain), and the ability to have a parade attended by thousands in the middle of the night (imagine the panic at Humberside Police at the thought of that and the fact all the bars would still be open) shows Spain to be more advanced than here. And their people more able to enjoy themselves.
I wouldn't recommend strolling on with a crate of tinnies on your shoulder. But you'll arrive in plenty of time for pre match bevvies anyway. We were back at the kc well before midnight for the semi. The main ball ache was the shambles of leaving Wembley car park. Instead of letting the coaches out one row at a time, you had a free for all of 5 or 6 rows trying to funnel down into one. Took over an hour.
For the semi final... the first coaches made it back at 11:30pm. Think the last one back was around 2-2:30pm? The coaches arrived at Wembley 3 hours before kick off, so plenty of time for a drink before the game. Think it's straight back to the coach after the game though. They want to leave as soon as they're full. Because of the fiasco of being able to find your coach for the semi final, bags on a lot of coaches weren't checked for alcohol because of the lateness of leaving. There was an elderly couple on my coach drinking some wine on the way home as a celebration of the result.
What a joke this was. The thing that made it worse for us was our coach was ready to leave pretty much straight away but was blocked in by the coach in front. By the time they were ready to leave, so was everybody else and resulted in the free for all.
Those who park in Walton Street Car Park for our homes games however will be used to this, so no great inconvenience.
Not sure how strict the bag checks are at Wembley. My grandson (newly diagnosed as diabetic) showed his bag to security and announced "It's got needles in it". Waved through with no search at all. My son wandered in unchallenged with a backpack full of Coke (liquid...)
