40 years ago. If I remember it was 0-0 at HT. Drenched well before kick off on the Embankment. Why does it always rain on me in Lancs? Second half collapse with a consolation goal from Dave Stewart, ****ed off with about ten minutes to go. Manchester Road has rarely been less appealing. Didn't dry out till the following Tuesday Dave Gibson not cutting the mustard, Bremner brought in. Puts it all into perspective doesn't it?
Why is he a wet old fart. We lost 4-1 last week and 5-1 this week to two teams that are favourites to be in the top 4 this season. We are favourites to be relegated. If it was Sunderland, West Ham or Stoke or someone like that then you would have something to moan about but it wasn't so reel your neck in.
Sweepstake for the Chelsea game? Who will get the red card for hand ball on the line? Robertson? Davies? Maguire? Marshall? * * feasible if Roger East is reffing.
16000 there for that game in about 3,000 Forest (Clough was manager) Up from 10,000 the previous home game v Sheffield and the infamous 'Hour of Hell in West Hull'
What was the hour of hell CM . Can't be arsed to see what the result was and don't recall being slaughtered at home by either Sheffield team .
Well CG it was a 1-1. Their buses were parked at Fiveways and they had a ten minute trudge in the pouring rain after the game to get back there, and en route put a few front windows in of houses down Boothferry Road.
Thankyou , that makes my dislike of Utd. and Wednesday even more complete . They were vermin anyway though.
Back then people would have said GTF if the HDM photographer had said "Fold your arms, look glum in front of your smashed windows" An angry quote sufficed "It was like World War 3" or "It was like something from the Wild West" together with details of what TV prog they were watching at the time (The New Avengers? Sale of the Century?)
I was only 12 when Billy Bremner came to City and remember being at the forest game and was at the Sheffield match too as I had a pass that season . However I do not remember this hour of hell , but we lived in north Hull and not near Fiveways . Although I do remember Purdy from the avengers .
I was also there to see Bremner debut v Forest and remember him scoring the only goal of the game giving us a 1-0 win .. I suspect your 'memories' need a bit of a jolt !
I was also twelve and remember it being an amazing atmosphere at that game. I was also in love with Purdey.
And Viv Anderson made his debut for Forest. Bremner scored from a free kick into the North Stand goal. I suspect Cityman was referring to the Sheff Utd game which ended 1-1. And the 'Hour of Mayhem in West Hull' was a headline from the HDM who loved to highlight any trouble at a City game.
