Nope. Off the top of my head Long is older than Austin and Bertrand. So is Yoshida. Maybe others too.

I'm fine with Fonte not traveling. Ithink Youshida should be fine. But even if he isn't, let's say that Yoshida makes one of his patented bad passes and we go down 1-0 or even 2-0. At that point, don't you use your extra subs to bring in better/more attackers and not worry about defense? The only way I'd realistically use Fonte would be if Yoshida went full Caulker. And he won't go.

Same applies to a lesser degree with Bertrand.

JWP really needs playing time, this might be his make-or-break season. And I don't think he's that much worse than Davis and is the better set piece taker. So again, if things go sideways and we find ourselves needing a goal, Davis for JWP would not be my primary concern.

I am nervous so I would not travel without my best goal scorer. My whole thing is, if things don't go well, we have to prioritize scoring, and that means Austin.

But while not taking a win for granted, I do believe that we are bringing more than enough talent to win if everyone works hard as a unit and plays to their capabilities. This keeps everyone fresh, gives some confidence to the young players that Puel has faith in them, and it should be a good experience for them to boot. Even if we lose, we can still advance. So nothing wrong with not bringing Austin. In fact, it's probably the right move. I'm just glad Puel has the stones to do it because I don't.

Probably a good idea. It hasn't gone smoothly for many that have settled in that region

Yep. But if might be more difficult to rest players for the trip to Milan. Not sure any first teamers will mind staying at home while the others play in the San Siro!

I'm beginning to get the idea that our manager is not a push over, but is definitely his own man without being pig-headed. The players must be aware that he will drop anyone and few players can feel they are pencilled in on the team sheet. He even dropped Forster to give one keeper a rest and another some game time.

I thought this would be our easiest game (apart from Hapoel at SMS) when the draw came out based solely on not knowing this team, but it doesn't look it now. Sometimes ignorance is bliss. Still hopeful if we play our best....make it a two win start, Saints.

Yay slightly earlier kick off means 2am instead of 4am for me. That's not just two hours. 2am is still Thursday. 4am is Friday. Sort of.

Do you think not taking Austin is related to his fitness? Not suggesting he is injured, but is he a player that needs careful nurturing and we will see his appearances being carefully controlled in the future. Most teams would travel with their best scorer (even if they hope not to use him), but perhaps the medical and fitness team have advised against a long journey for this particular delicate flower.

This is one little girl going to be annoyed about Daddy not playing. She has all the knowledge of the average football fan....go...and kick. :)

Austin could go, and could play, but I think by resting him they will be getting a better performance in his next game. The way he is playing now, he is working harder than he has ever done, I think he'd confirm that. Sensible management.
