Huddersfield v Swansea Competition - Sky Bet Championship Venue - The John Smith’s Stadium Date - 20 April 2024 Kick off - 3pm Following 2 much needed home victories that have all but sealed and confirmed Championship football for another season, next up for Luke Williams’ Swansea squad is a trip to Yorkshire to play relegation threatened Huddersfield. Last Saturday, the Swans all but confirmed their Championship survival as an Andy Rinomhota own goal gave them victory over already-relegated Rotherham. On-loan Cardiff midfielder Rinomhota headed Liam Walsh's corner into his own net to condemn the Millers to the 28th league defeat of their miserable season. For a while Rotherham seemed destined to claim just their fifth away point of the campaign, with the Swans looking toothless despite their domination until Rinomhota's unfortunate contribution. A second successive victory lifts the Swans to 14th place on 53 points and, though they are not (strictly) mathematically safe, Luke Williams' side can surely now look forward to a seventh straight season in the second tier. That was the primary goal for Williams following his appointment as head coach in early January, with his players conjuring just enough positive performances to pull clear of the relegation picture with three games to come this season. Whilst the Swans were beating the Millers, Huddersfield were dropping into the Championship relegation places after conceding a penalty in the 10th minute of stoppage time to draw 1-1 at Bristol City. The Terriers had the better of the first period but failed to test Max O'Leary in the Bristol City goal as the Robins failed to click after their 5-0 win over Blackburn on Wednesday night. City improved after the break and Josh Koroma's late goal seemed to have been enough to get all three points for the Yorkshire side. But Oliver Turton was adjudged to have handled Cameron Pring's cross in the area deep in stoppage time and Nahki Wells converted from the spot. While the draw saw Huddersfield earn a fifth point in a three-game unbeaten run, a win for Birmingham over Coventry saw Town drop into the relegation zone - they are a point from safety with three games to play. The Swans have played Huddersfield on 63 previous occasions, winning 18, drawing 19 and losing 26. In the corresponding fixture last season, the teams battled out a goalless draw: Turning to tomorrow, I think that whilst the Swans are more than capable of returning with all 3 points, I suspect that the Terriers’ hunger and need for 3 points will see them prevail by 2-0. Hope I’m wrong
Agree Taff, they have the urgency, we don't now (and the players needed a rocket up them anyway), 1 - 0.
All comes down to the attitude of the players, I hope they don't play like that "they are on the beach". I hope they go for a win.
1-0 to Huddersfield. Player’s attitude this season tells me they’ll take their foot off the pedal as they already think the job is done.
I'd like to think we would be up for this but I fear that we will literally take our eye off the ball. So it's a 1-0 defeat for me
Swansea City head coach Luke Williams names an unchanged starting XI for the third straight game for this afternoon's Championship clash with Huddersfield Town. The Swans boss sticks with the side from the home wins over Stoke City and Rotherham United as his side go in search of a third-consecutive victory at the John Smith's Stadium. Carl Rushworth continues in goal, with Josh Key, Josh Tymon, Harry Darling and Ben Cabango making up the Swansea defence. Captain Matt Grimes and Jay Fulton are once again paired together in midfield, with Ollie Cooper set to operate ahead of them. Jamie Paterson and Ronald will provide support to Liam Cullen, who leads the line for the Swans in attack. Nathan Wood is fit enough for a place on the bench following injury, and comes in for Aimar Govea after the teenager's involvement in the under-18s' Professional Development League Cup final defeat at Millwall in midweek. Swansea City: Carl Rushworth, Josh Key, Jay Fulton, Ben Cabango, Harry Darling, Matt Grimes (captain), Jamie Paterson, Josh Tymon, Liam Cullen, Ollie Cooper, Ronald. Substitutes: Andy Fisher, Jerry Yates, Jamal Lowe, Charlie Patino, Mykola Kuharevich, Liam Walsh, Nathan Wood, Bashir Humphreys, Azeem Abdulai. Huddersfield Town: Lee Nicholls, Matty Pearson, Michal Helik (captain), Delano Burgzorg, Jack Rudoni, Josh Koroma, Sorba Thomas, Brodie Spencer, David Kasumu, Alex Matos, Tom Lees. Substitutes: Chris Maxwell, Bojan Radulovic, Jaheim Headley, Tom Edwards, Ollie Turton, Ben Wiles, Danny Ward, Ben Jackson, Rhys Healey.
That's a tap in for them if he squares that.... we really need to stop farting about in front of goal.
From what I've seen second half, that's a very flattering scoreline but fair play, that second goal was quality. Looking at recent games against other relegation cannon fodder, we really aren't much better. Luke needs to get busy for next season.
