The greatest day and night of my life, I thought it was the begining, such was my misguided optimism.

Not sure about that, gelders. Sheffield Wednesday lost to Everton 3-2 in 1966. But Everton play in blue and so Wednesday might not have actually played in their stripes that day. I'd have to look that up to be sure about it.

Looking back at those videos I forgot how poor the weather was, rained on/off all day, seeing Stokoe and his staff under a blanket watching the match brought it out how cool and miserable it was weather wise. The pre match entertainment had David Bedford (remember him) racing around the track, how different things are these days.
So many memories, my mother sowed up red/white stripped bedding into poncho style outfits for the three of us. One of my brothers was 24 stone at the time so he looked a right sight, we all had top hats to match and after the match we were going back to our bus through one of the car parks and walked past a Rolls Royce with four well dressed men stood with the boot open and they called us over.
The boot was filled with a hugh picnic hamper and a matching wicker bottle container, they had every spirit you could imagine in there together with a cool.box full of beer, "help yourselves lads" and we did. Turned out they were from Bolton Wanderers football club and they said our result was the best thing that had happened to football in years, they were extremely generous.
Got on the bus very happy indeed, on the way home we persuaded the driver to pull off the M1 in Leicestershire and we found a pub to watch Match of the Day. We pulled into the car park followed by a bus full of Leeds fans so we expected the worst. However no problem at all we went inside persuaded the Licensee to put the match on and the Leeds fans bought us,all a pint, happy days indeed.(apologies if this, has been a bit long winded).

Thanks lads just sat here thinking about it all it just seems like yesterday, pity it's probably the only real stand out day in over 50 years supporting the lads, such a shame.

I was there that day......never thought we were going to lose to be honest. Was at the City away and Hillsborough. Also, went to the Luton away game the week before we played them at home in the 6th round. Talk about fielding an under strength team...lol!!! Arrived back from the Luton away game and went straight to Roker Park to get inline for my ticket.....what a time...great memories!!!

I can just imagine Van gaal and Giggs with a blanket over their legs in the 2016 final, worrying about that frigging giant Filofax dropping on the floor !. Fantastic memories of 1973, the club should have done everything to make sure we had more days like that, but alas it has not happened, so when ? over to Mr Short.
