The Sun/BBC websites are reporting that we've made a £2.5m bid for Jesse Lingard. Not sure how likely this is as I thought he was pushing for a place in Utds starting line up, especially with Di Maria going, but would be a great coup IMO http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/33765886
http://www.squawka.com/news/reports-van-gaal-clears-jesse-lingards-2-5m-move-to-bristol-city/432565 The reports keep coming.
Now that's more like it! On the rare occasions I've seen him play he's been great, and in the right group he'd be a top player. If he's going for £2.5m I'll drive to Manchester and personally deliver him to Bristol City for a medical. He's been tipped as a future England player a number of times, and I reckon he'll be in the Premier League in the next 3-4 years.
Because it's public knowledge we won't get him Someone in the Championship with more money than us will scupper it
I'm not too sure about this rumour, since it all tends to originate from The Sun. A lot of United fans seem a bit pissed off at the news as they think he could be a decent enough backup for them, and because he scored against Barcelona on tour. Also, £2.5m for him is an absolute steal by the sounds of it. It all seems far too good to be true, and usually that means that it won't happen. If we have a chance of signing him I'm hoping that we agree personal terms today, because with this being public knowledge I bet other teams are already on the phone to his agent.
Hang on to your hollyhocks it's not done yet. Seems to have come straight out of the blue and might be a bit too tasty for us, and as Ender said we will now have to fight every man and his dog for his signature. Not too confident this one will fall at our feet without a good fight from all concerned. If that's what it takes then get the job done City.
Supposed to be paying him a £I million pounds per year, nearly £20000 per week.. http://www.manchesterunited.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=407689
Ouch. When a club like Bristol City sign a player on these reported salaries then surely the dressing room atmosphere could go a bit pear shaped based on petty jealousy. What cost success?
Can't see we would pay that much in salary, although maybe SL would see it as a great long term investment that would be recouped With future sale and future sell-on clause
I don't know how they could know that, since the deal hasn't been officially accepted yet. How could they possibly know what we'd be offering? Either way, it looks like this deal is actually on! A few big names have reported it. Also, allegedly, there's no substance to the Newcastle rumours, so we're currently the only team in the running. £20k a week is excessive, and we shouldn't be paying that much in wages when transfer fees have already exploded in this division. £10k a week sounds reasonable to me, since I imagine a lot of our players' wages have substantially increased after promotion. He'll be at the higher end, but to be fair Lingard did just score against Barcelona. The money is probably justified.
