'Gary Monk seems to be getting his message across' I'm not sure he deserves to much respect right now. He was lucky to be given a plum job in the Prem but then sacked. Reminds me of players who were given more than a head start in management and turned out failures. Pearce, Southgate, Robson etc - the list is endless.
I understand that point of view, though I think if you look at cold, hard statistics, he's still in credit at the moment. Sometimes I do wonder about whether managers get too much/little credit and how it swings so radically as time goes by. Slavan Bilic was seen as an upgrade by most on Big Sam at West Ham, but suddenly they're playing terribly and if they don't reverse the trend dramatically and quickly, then they could genuinely be relegation candidates, which even Sam's critics wouldn't have thought likely if he were still in charge. All I'll say definitively for now is; Leeds are on a good run of form, and that alone is enough to suggest that tomorrow night's game will be a difficult one.
No game at this level is a foregone conclusion. There have been enough unexpected results this season already and tomorrow is no different. It could go any way.
I was one of them. in a Bakers coach bound for Weston Super Mare. We stopped at a motorway services and watched disbelievingly as Merrick and a few of the others were larking about in the foyer. I think they'd been at the communion wine - and didn't they deserve it ! PS - Tune !
I'm undecided about tomorrow night. Getting that draw last year was the best I can remember against Leeds as we always seem to struggle against them. So a repeat of that result will keep me happy. A win will make me start to think this could be our season. I don't expect play offs as we will no doubt hit a bad patch after all we are City. But a top ten finish will be more than I expected.
I really think we can be the surprise package. Top six a big big possibility. When you have the best striker in the division banging em in for fun you have a chance.
And some older ones...Bobby Charlton, Nobby Stiles, Tony Adams, Mark Wright, Paul Merson.... As you say, the list is literally endless as is the pool of top players who think (or thought) they could make a go of management.
Paul Gascoigne and Bobby Moore are two that stand out. Bobby might have made a manager, but Gazza……..! Disaster waiting to happen Both national heroes but lesser players have made great managers where legendary footballers didn't have the necessary skill set
If Lee was given the Manchester city job for a guaranteed 3 years .. tomorrow . he would likely keep them in the top 6 even win it! same might be said for loads of other lower league managers that have shown a bit of success certainly the top dozen in the champs could ..... Mourinho does well with teams that are not his !
He managed a club in China Scored the goal of the season and then got himself fired for being drunk as a skunk Would we change him though - of course, but we are still grateful for his genius
Mourinho in a study of head coaches/Managers across Europe outperformed all. The data there will have changed a little, but winning leagues in four countries goes beyond well. Lee Johnson or Gary Monk it is not.
Given the size of the club and its history its Leeds who should be strolling past Bristol City etc. Burton play in the championship. Burton!!!
We are where we are because we deserve to be here. Same as every other club in the league including Burton.
Does anyone know why the Leeds defender picked the ball up and kick it out the ground? Did he get confused and think it was rugby and tried kicking it out on the 40th minute?
Credit where it is due pack last night was a monster, and Reid is getting better and better. Funny since our new recruits have arrived the so called lesser players have upped their games. onwards and upwards,
