It's mentioned on the Transfer thread but thought I'd start one as this looking very likely. First reports of a medical are coming through, whether it's that far along I don't know That will do me. Streets ahead of Jones at right back where I think is his best position and adequate cover for CB. Thoughts?
was a breakthrough talent who's fade. Awful CB, decent RB. Had a shocker last year, but all of the Villa squad were ****e. Not sure how i feel about this one.
Agree with you. ****e for Villa but they collectively tossed it in, he was very decent for Fiorentina just a year ago. Still young enough to be salvaged and for me well worth a punt.
Same as I said on the transfer thread: Doesn't fill with massive excitement, however he'll be very handy in the squad as he can cover RB and CB. Wonder about his wages mind, as it was reported he turned us down for Villa as they were stumping up more last Summer.
Im abit like you too. I used to think he was class at City. I remember seeing him tear Man Utd apart playing as a rightback but he doesnt seem the same player anymore. He had a pretty unsuccsessful loan spell at Fiorentina where he hardly played before he went to Villa. I think ill leave my trust with Moyes on this one.
Not too sure to be honest as he may not be what we remember - he was a good player when younger but may not be ready now. I remember an Alan Kennedy we signed under Mackemeny - disaster. But if Moyes wants him bring it on.
Fiorentina wanted to keep him mate, he didn't play every game cos they had a settled defence and a good season, but he was decent when called upon and they did try and keep him if I recall correctly.
I have a feeling that he was bad for Villa because of how crap the team was and not because he's genuinely regressed, we all remember how good he used to be and I reckon he could get that form back again. He's a real battler and if we can build a team of players with the same drive then we'll be more than alright.
I vaguely remember reading a negative article about him when he was there. I cant remember where i read it and what it said exactly. He only made 10 appearances for them so he probably didnt get much of a chance to show what he can do.
How do you know what 'we' can remember out of interest? Do you mean what you can remember? I saw him in a Fiorentina game in the 14/15 season and he looked more than competent at rb, Nads has saw more of him that season and thought he looked decent. If he's not ready at 28 he'll never will be, not sure how old you thought he is.
10 league appearances fella. He played 19 times for them with the Europa and a Copa included. If what Nads says is correct about the settled defence it looks like they haven't been afraid to call on him and given him game time whenever they could.
Let's be honest.. Messi would've been Lucky to get 5 goals for villa last season. I liked Richards and he was a very good player. One season in an awful side doesn't make you a bad player. As @Bri OBE says, he's way better than Jones at right back in every department. Probably a better CB than oshea now too so improves the squad undoubtedly!
This is a good read... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...rentina-Italy-better-player-ll-moving-on.html
He comes across quite well. I liked the willing to take a pay cut to play regular bit, and if he wants to play for England again, well at least Sam knows where we are and how to find us.
So we could have Richards kone and kaboul in the same defence there all tanks and we could be very handy from set pieces
He didn't 'take' a pay cut and leave though did he? He sat around for years at City, went on loan in his last season, then left after his contract expired.
