The main attraction for casual fans is that the batsman has to try and hit every ball out of the stadium, so there is always action and high drama!
Also, the overseas stars each year will only be from the countries that aren't touring England - interesting that if it is approved the first year is not an Ashes year. I wonder how they'll class Irish players as they will be a Test nation by then, but I assume that is an issue that affects county cricket as soon as Ireland play their first Test, which should be in 2018.
Not sure I agree, Dave. Drama requires conflict and contrast to highlight its intensities. Trying to flog every ball to the boundary, regardless of where it pitches, shortening the boundaries and manipulating field restrictions to swing the contest between batsman and bowler entirely in the batsman's favour, reducing the bowler's part in the game to 24 deliveries, all make for a very predictable game completely lacking in drama.
Well Theo, I have to say 20/20 is my favourite form of the game followed by ODIs and finally 5 day tests. They are full of action with batsmen having to take risks to be successful!
I'm sure you're not alone, but many people I meet who say they prefer T20 never actually attend any games. It will be a short-term fix for some county clubs but I suspect it will suffer the law of diminishing returns ultimately.
I'm sure I heard or read somewhere that the Australian version was only given the go ahead based on the fact it would be shown on free to view TV. Apparently once it got going viewing figures started to grow and gradually the crowds actually at the games increased as well, perhaps we could do the same here ? would mean we'd avoid putting money in some media moguls pocket and get to see some live cricket occasionally ?
Have you not seen what the proposals involve? They want the majority of the coverage to be free-to-air.
Hard luck to lose a major event because of something spotted on TV!! http://m.bbc.co.uk/sport/golf/39476590
Just about to watch the IPL match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians - RCB have a top 3 of Kohli, Gayle and ABDV. I wouldn't like to be a MI bowler!
