Yeah I know it's Southcoates, I've somehow merged it with Marfleet in my ageing mind. It was Blue Heaven I was thinking of and it was never opposite Crown!!! Crown is definitely still on the go though. As are Ravenser and Highland Laddie.
I was always under the impression that Blue Heaven was the Crown down Marfleet lane. I was wrong and you were right Chazz. http://www.closedpubs.co.uk/yorkshire/kingstonuponhull_anchorinn.html
****s sake John, if I wasn't confused before I am now. Between me, you, FLG and Chazz surely we can get to the bottom of this.
I just corrected myself, Chazz was right, Blue Heaven was the Anchor down Southcoates. http://www.closedpubs.co.uk/yorkshire/kingstonuponhull_anchorinn.html
Never been in, only time in Laddie was Christmas Eve 1988. Proper rough but not in the same league as Elephant and Castle. Made Skippers look like The Ritz.
No, John, Blue Heaven definitely was Southcoates Lane, set back, virtually opposite Fire Station. My old stomping ground, born and bred off Southcoates Lane. Brill memories flooding back of local watering holes, The Reindeer, Ravenser, Highland Laddie and the very rough Blue Heaven, you had to have your wits about you! Happy days.
I realise that now, I corrected myself. It was Red Hell I went into, which was the Crown down Marfleet lane once or twice.
As you come over the bridge on Southcoates lane it's on the left on the corner of Belmont Street. I think it might even be a hotel now.
Reindeer was corner of Belmont St/Southcoates Lane, opposite Belly Fields, bottom of fly over. Played darts many times in Blue Heaven and other pubs round there. By 1998 I was long gone out of Hull! Phew!
Last time I went in Reindeer the glass in the door was smashed and there was still blood on the floor ...splendid Christening though It's gone now hasn't it?
Chuck Norris wunt last 5 minutes in a Hull estate pub, even half the women could put him on his arse.
